How do you become a top contributor. I am up to 11% "best answer" yet I'm not considered "top contributor". Yet I see others with 11% considerd "top contributor". I see other with less total points become top contributor. What gives?
Note: I am up to level 4.
Thanks.

I answer questions in many catagory (but mostly in cars and photography). Should I not divide my attention? Do I have to get certain percentage in just one catagory?

For Micheal M - why bother answering. You haven't even read my question (when I said I was up to 11 percent / level 4). I didn't get there by putting monkeys at my keyboard.
I like PJALITTLE suggestiong on how to change the system. I defintely think that Yahoo - Answers should listen.
StarWing20 would have gotten the Best Answer but CatGirl2K just had more specific answer. But I very much appreciate your adivce. I wish I can give it to more than just one person.
But it was CatGirl2K who actually answered the question. So I am tempted to give Best Answer to PJALITTLE, but I'm forced to to give it to CatGirl2K (not grudgingly).

Thanks you all, fellow answerers. I intend to work hard at getting better score and TC.

Well, your answers need to be better to get chosen as "best answer," which helps. However, there's no exact formula that any user knows for sure.
Please see http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/answers/network/contributor.html and

I don't know why you don't have a Top Contributor badge yet. I've been using this section for about a year or two and I still don't have one. "Vogue" is a crappy magazine that thinks it is the epitome of high fashion, but only promotes crazy trends that won't be "in" after a few months. If you ask me, it's good that you're not interning there anymore. Maybe it makes them feel better about themselves. I don't know... Who the hell would wear "Croc skates?" Besides, I've heard that that company is going down the drain financially so I think it's best not to get involved with them. I had nothing better to do, so I decided to put up with you and actually answer all of your questions. Toodles.

It just has to do with answering alot of questions in the same catagory, not your best answer percentage. I wondered that too for a long time...that's what I came up with. Are you answering questions in many different catagories?
Hey, if you know about cars and photography then stick with that. I mean the whole purpose is to help people out with good answers, so answer what you know no matter what catagory it is in. That's more important than working to get a top contributor title... you will get it eventually!
It probably is a percentage of you answers, like 50 percent or more of your answers are in one catagory, or something similar to that. Or it could just be once you have answered a certain amount of questions in one catagory... I'm just not sure how it works I just noticed that thing about the best answer percentages, like you mentioned before. I had a higher percent of answers than some people, but didn't have the top cont. thingy, then one day it just popped up. And I have seen people with very high best answer percentages, with no top cont. things. Maybe it's a combination of them both...

I think that the Top Contributor category is too restrictive as it is awarded to just a single subject. I see lots of people who have many points and good percentage of Best Answers but aren't Top Contributors. These often have a much broader range of knowledge and are, in effect, contributing far more.
For a couple of weeks, I had that TC after my name but had no idea why or in what category. I thought it just came automatically with Levels and Best Answers. Then it disappeared..............I never found out why until just now when I saw this question.
There should be a TC for people who make it to Level 4 and get 25% or better Best Answers as these are the folks who contribute most to making Yahoo Answers worthwhile and not just for a single subject.
For example, there are 4 Top Contributors above my posting, none of whom have attained as many points as I've received this week, or as many total points with 34% Best Answers. covering a wider range of subjects, not just narrowed to one specialty.
Isn't that worth something?
