People within our society have been sent to prison for taking part in S&M because it causes actual or grevious bodily harm.... so why are the ones that like to be punished, not treated as self harm patients?

If you were an alien from another planet, visiting earth to research self harming in humans, what would you write in your research book about the topic of S & M?

I know lots of people enjoy a little slap and tickle... but for the purpose of the question, I'm talking about the really heavy stuff, obviously.

I'd make a full transcript of that Eurythmics song ... y'know the one? Sweet Dreams: Some of them want to use you, some of them want to be used by you. Some of them want to abuse you, some of them want to be abused ...

But seriously ...
Self harm is a way of dealing with very strong emotions. For some people it gives the relief that crying may provide for the rest of us.
Some self-harming people feel so angry and aggressive they can't control their emotions. They become afraid that they may hurt someone, so they turn their aggression inwards to get relief.
The most common forms are cutting the arms, hands and legs, and less commonly the face, abdomen, breasts and even genitals. Some people burn or scald themselves, others inflict blows on their bodies, or bang themselves against something.
Basically, the main reason that participant of S & M are not treated as self harm patiants is because they're NOT self harming.
I don't know much about S & M, but I understand it's based around mutual consent and prediscused limits to behaviour. It's a social activity, that doesn't come from the same psycological place. The sadist gets sexual pleasure from being sadistic and visa versa, provided it all stays within the comfort limits of the abused (which I'm sure goes way beyond what we'd find acceptable), they'll still feel that pleasure. Perhaps, it is when the sadist goes beyond the masicist set bounderies that it stops being a source of ejoyment for the one being abused and strays into "grevious bodily harm".
Self harm happens so that a solitary soul can just feel normal.
It not the same thing.

I visited dominatrix once and loved it. What it's actually about on a basic level is handing over control to someone else so you can let go and let them get on with it. There are such things as Safe Words which is where if you get uncomfortable with what is happening then you say the Safe Word and it all stops. I'm not a great lover of pain or anything but being stripped and whipped etc was quite good fun. :)

That's a tough one. I would probably write that those humans have a peculiar way of fulfilling their sexual desires. Don't forget to read my book, titled: Deep Glance by Anthony Ismael.

I would write: Zorrgol's gotta get him some of that. (because I would be a male alien)

I have experimented with S&M, and if you do it right, it does no harm. It's just a little kinky.
