Monopoly is relatively fun. Must be played with 4+ people (if possible?) It's just fun to see your friends step on your land's hotel and pay up $1175 and make them suffer :D
Checkers is also fun (short fun) because the matches usually end within 5-10 minutes if you and the opponent is quick. It's always fun to plan out your stategy, only to find an error later on when your friend eats 4 of your guys and makes a queen/king. Fun indeed

Hotels- kind of a 3D version of monopoly but more fun because it keeps moving along and with 4 players no one is bored for long- until you lose all your money and wonder when we're re-setting the game.

new favorite is Settlers of Catan- and by far the BEST 2 PLAYER GAME EVER- Settlers of Catan card game. Fast paced, always different, lost of expansion possibilities and it's not a role playing game but an honest to goodness dig your heels in and play to the bitter end game.

I have over 350 boardgames in my collection. I have many, many favorites, but right now my top three games would have to be New England, Ys and Goa.

Other great games.... Settlers of Catan, Alhambra, El Grande, Tigris & Euphrates, Hermagor and Il Principe.

My favorite board game is backgammon, because I like the combination of skill and luck required to win. For example, chess is all skill, no element of luck involved, and Yahtzee is all luck, no skill involved. A balance of both keeps it interesting.

I like Trivial Pursuit too.

Risk and monopoly are the great games but are relatively long. Risk because it is fun and deals with strategy but mostly luck of the dice. If you want risk to be even more fun, create your own map and game rules like we did. It helps to take brakes in them. Fun short games are clue and masterpiece(not sure if they make it any more).

I love cranium because it mixes pictionary, charades, trival pursute plus heaps more. It's so much fun when you do club craniums and everyone has to try to bet each other. I'd also have to say that i love imagine if.... thats lots of fun the more people you have playing cause you get to see what people really think of you and what you think of them.

I have to say Scrabble. I love words. I always have. You, also, get to really use your brain. You have to be creative, you have to know how to spell, you have to have a lot of words at your command and you have to know how to strategize. Can't get much better than that.
