Also, my betta's been acting strange. He seems to lay on the leaves of the plant often and not move. The water is really clean and I feed him regularly. And he's only about 8 months old. What's wrong with him?

Have to agree with G - this sounds like a problem with too cool or too warm of water. Once they get outside their comfort zone of 76-85o, they become less active.

For myself, I use either live or silk plants. Some of the plastics have rough edges that can snag the betta's tail and rip it, so I prefer not using them. If you do, check them over carefully and smooth down any rough edges you find by cutting off the rough part with scissors or nail clippers.

Nothing alarming with your Betta, just resting, I have 16 and they all do it, sometimes simultaneously throughout periods of the day.
Plastic plants look great in a Betta Aquarium but it doesn't hurt to add some live plant to help add oxygen to the water on a warmer day.
Cheers
Karen
I hope this helps

yes. It makes the tank look beautiful and the betta can have some fun... get other things too to liven up the tank. Bettas dont live to long either, well I had mine for 2 years. CHeck the temperature and makesure the tank is clean and he/she is fed good. Sometimes the stores they come from make them seem depressed and unhappy. Give it something to do. Mine was sad, and i got it a plant and a 'castle' and he cheered up and became one of the best fish I've ever had.

it isn't the plant. that's the unfiltered water that's inflicting the subject. An unfiltered tank without delay gets polluted with waste ammonia from the fish. This stresses the fish and makes it probable that it's going to fall ill. If the tank isn't filtered then that's probable not heated, and if the water is purely too chilly it has the comparable consequence. Silk vegetation are pronounced because of fact they are softer and much less probable to wreck the bettas long fins. yet that may not something to do with illnesses, purely the bettas fins are greater probable to be torn by potential of not effortless spiky vegetation. bettas like resting on leaves -- its just their thing. its a place to hang out -- they like to do that a lot.

the only thing i could suggest is make sure he is warm. they are more active if you keep the water over 75 degrees.

We have tons of fake plants in our tank...no problems there. We also have a beta in there :) He could just be resting, betas swim, then rest, then swim.
