Metallica War Song

Both songs are first-person accounts of the hardships that soldiers/veterans faced, so they're not really protest songs, per se. If you want a current protest song, I would suggest "BYOB" by System of a Down, "Idiot Son of an A--hole" by NOFX, "American Idiot" by Green Day, or one of many others. That said... :-)

In "Rooster," the narrator is in the midst of combat ("here they come to snuff the Rooster") in Vietnam and is thinking about the thankless sacrifices he has made ("they spit on me in my homeland").

"One," on the other hand, is technically based on a WWI story, though the lyrics are not specific to any particular war. The song is about a veteran who was injured badly in a landmine explosion, losing his arms, legs, vision, hearing, and speech as a result. He is sustained on life support machines and a feeding tube, and is forced to endure intense pain and horror, which he cannot express. He cannot even see or hear what is going on around him, so he is effectively imprisoned in his own body, or as he says, "trapped in myself -- body my holding cell." So, he "wish[es] for death."

Both songs are excellent, but I think "One" is more universal, if you're looking for something that applies to the current war. Good luck!

Really just depends on your taste. They're both good songs. I prefer "Rooster" though. I like the story in it better.

properly the old adage is, is that it fairly is merely approximately impossible to make an anti conflict action picture, devoid of glorifying conflict. So this is troublesome to assert bro. i don't likely think of the two one in each of those have been all that "antiwar" first of all. I mean i be attentive to Oliver Stone is a huge liberal, yet i think of the action picture is extra of a lose mag of his very own conflict studies. probably the final anti conflict action picture could be "All Quiet on the Western front".
