Why does my wireless connection keep disconnecting every 2 or so minutes? Could it be the signal strength?

There are many possibilities.

Move your pc near your router and in an unobstructed line of sight. This will tell you if the problem is signal strength.

If the problem remains, the quesiton is whether there is an issue between pc and router or between router and internet. Create a new request here telling us what you did and we can help further.

There are several reasons your connection could be dropping. Make sure your wireless router is not setting to close to you computer, monitor or modem. The router gets the best signal the higher up it is placed, a book shelf works good for this. Make sure the antennae are pointed up, and not to the side. Check to make sure all your computers are set DHCP and are not using the same IP address. Using the same IP address on 2 computers causes IP contention and will cause both computers to drop their connection. Make sure that you are connected the correct wireless networks. Some computers will connect to the strongest signal by default, make sure you have your network specified, and are not "accidently" using a neighbors connection. Also check your signal strength and make sure you have at least 4 bars for your connection. If all that fails, try uninstalling and reinstalling your wireless network interface driver. You might also want to check with your router manufacturer and see if you need a firmware ugrade for your router.

It could be signal strength or it could be your settings. You don't say what operating system you're using, but Windows XP is notorious for jumping signals. You can stop some of that behavior by having it only connect to networks that you designate. This only works if Windows controls your wireless settings. If you have third party software that controls your wireless card it probably doesn't have that feature built into it.

Try to change the location of your Wireless router.

The issue could come from several reason but try location first.
Then reset the router 1 more time.

Don't hesitate to email me if you have issues.

Good luck,

Bob.
