That's problematic. Now if you mean U.S. troops attacking peaceful or defenseless tribes, then I always vote for the Native American. If you mean war parties attacking defenseless homesteads, then I always vote for the cowboy.
The problem is by the time of the American cowboy, the Eastern coast wasn't populated by white Europeans anymore. It was populated by Americans. Now THEIR ancestors were indeed invaders and conquerors, but these people were born and raised in the "New World" for almost 400 years and therefore could also be rightfully called "native." Now before someone says 400 years is nothing, remember the Aztecs (properly called Mexica) ruled in Mexico for less than 100 years.
Most of the problems definitely had to do with the American government's treatment of the Native American, however the initial reason for military force in the West was due to attacks and killing of civilians.
So sometimes I'm for the cowboys and sometimes I'm for the indians depending on the situation. When it concerns football, I'm always for The Cowboys.

Read heart of Darkness by Joesph Conrad. Its a story about that time in history, well before cowboys and Indains but still it was teh start of that whole thing

Are you talking about sports?
If not, of course, "Indians". Humanity is so inhumane to each other; what happened to the Indians (they called themselves the "People" is so sad, millions died because of the white man's diseases.
Of course, I am prejudiced: my grandfather rode with Red Cloud!
Perhaps what it means is you root for the underdog?

I always wanted Cowboys to win because they were always portrayed as heros, but as I got older I always vote for the Indians.

The indians have had a bad time, I support the underdog.
All the people who voted thumbs down how would you like it if someone invaded your land?
