I'm just kind of curious on what people's opinions are and what they think about Walnut Creek. I grew up there but haven't lived there for 6 years now, but still come back often. I love it overall all but there are some things I don't care for about that town. So what do you like about it or don't like about? would you change anything? Just curious what people's opinions about the "Dub-C" are.

Walnut Creek, California, a suburb east of SF and Oakland. Sorry but I thought that was somewhat obvious considering I asked it in the SF category.
Thanks in advance to everyone else that actually answers the question.

steve s: I never said I didn't like WC, I love that place; it's my hometown and I'm glad I grew up there. I was just curious what other people thought of it, that's all.

I absolutely adore walnut creek I grew up there and lived there until I went to college in the 90s. I have since moved to the Napa area and work in Sonoma. And I would totally move back if it weren't for the hour long commute.
great shopping, downtown vibe. And best of all...family and friends that still live there. :)
I don't know that I would change anything about it. It has come so far from what it was in the 1980s. And I love it now.

Well, it would seem to me that anyone who is answering "'what the hell is Walnut Creek?" doesn't know enough to be answering this question.
The question is in the San Francisco section. Walnut Creek is in the East Bay area.
I never officially lived in WC. My mother grew up in Alamo, works in WC now and lives in San Ramon and I come back as a visitor regularly.
It's the kind of town I regularly compare other 'burbs to. It has (in my opinion) a real downtown that attracts business and shoppers. The parking situation isn't great, but better than in other towns. I wish my husband's job would let us live in the area, as this is the kind of place I'd want to be. Don't see much of the "down side" of the town as a visitor. Would love to hear other opinions.

Walnut Creek is very pretty town, with a nice shopping area in the downtown area. Also, very lovely, leafy residential area. Safe, affluent and family-orientated neighborhood.
The downsides in my opinion is the fact it lacks job opportunities as most professional, tech jobs are either in SF or Silicon Valley. Both SF and Silicon Valley are quite a long way from Walnut Creek.
The fact you have to be stuck in traffic on the Bay Bridge to go to San Francisco in an earthquake-prone state, certainly is a major turn-off for many people, for obvious reasons.
The other downside is really the diversity in WC. Ie. in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, it's a great success story of all different cultures living together peacefully. You can find all types of ethicity and languages from all over the world within just one street in those areas.

I love Walnut Creek. Isn't that a bumper sticker?
It's great going downtown to have dinner and being able to walk at any hour with no problems.
Parking your car is the problem. We have free parking, just not enough of it.
Really, the only thing I dislike are the sheer number of police on Ygnacio Valley Road.
Walnut Creek will always put a smile on my face, it's home.

Walnut Creek is nice. Lots of good restaurants and a nice mall. A little bit pricey but I think what people there are paying for is the quality of living.

Well, we lived in WC downtown area for over 3 years. I absolutely love the place. On a sunny day just stroll in the downtown area and there are tons of eating joints from diverse ethnicities. Longs drugs is based out of WC and there is Verizon too for job oppurtunities. Just a 40 min ride on bart to SFO. Predominantly white suburb ! If you have to travel on Ygnacio and Treat during peak hours... GOD help you !

It is a little odd going back now - everything is so... different.... I remember it being a LOT smaller .... But I like what they have done to Broadway Plaza, even if I still remember the Luckys store where Nordstrom now is .....I haven't lived there for 20 years but it will always be 'home' ... of course my father, my grandfather and my great grandfather were all born there.... my great great grandmother was born in Alamo ...
ok enough nostalgia - it's still quite nice..........
