It just has a box on a black screen that tells me 'your activation period has expired...' so I entered the product key on the side of the computer like it says then it told me that prouduct key is not genuine windows material. It gives me another option to buy a new product key for $150, but I rather not becouse I just bought this expinsive computer. The same expensive computer that is not working. PLEASE HELP ME!!

It should still be under warranty. Call Best Buy and have their techs look into it.

You will need to contact Microsoft directly, you can go to http://support.microsoft.com/windowsvista for your preferred form of contact. I personally gave in and called **it took me 2 hours** Let them know that "you purchased this product nearly 60 days ago and now its ...". The fact is that the OS was installed and usable at the point of purchase and there after. And don't freak out because the bulk of Vista users are in this boat with you by one degree or another. The Microsoft Rep you connect with can direct you through the update process.

Sometimes when you call they want a credit card number to bill you a support fee. So have a card ready but remind each rep you speak to that you do not agree with being charged, for obvious reasons.

Don't panic! First of all, I would contact the reseller you purchased the computer from, which is Best Buy. Either go inside one of their stores, or call 1-888-BEST BUY. They should be able to help you, since you bought it from them. Also, do a spyware+virus scan on the computer to make sure this isn't a virus. If none of the above can help you, contact Microsoft and explain your problem.

Good luck!

it sounds to me like you need to take it back to best buy and get them to give you a proper registration code. or call microsoft they really do help you with those issues. i had the same issue with XP and i called them they sorted it out and activated my copy of Windows. sometimes your code is taken by people and they register it first so microsoft has it in hteir system that you are the one with the non genuine version instead of the other people

sorry bud, you needed to register your computer sooner. all you can do is call Best Buy at 1-888-237-8289, or Microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com
good luck, you might have to buy that new product key, next time: register your system AS SOON AS YOU FIRST PLUG IT IN!
