Just read an article in the Village Voice about male circumcision and now am a bit confused and curious. Now most of us who were circumcised, we didnt have a choice in the matter as it happened at birth. Im really interested to hear from those who chose to have a circumcision later in life (especically after you became sexually active)

I read that there are pro's and cons to having it done. The pro's are basically saying its a health concern and prevents infections and some STD's. The cons are that it takes away the most sensitive part of the male anatomy and makes sex less enjoyable over time.

Ive noticed that since i became sexually active almost 10 yrs ago, my sensitivity levels have begun to drop. at first i thought it was due to too much masturbation during my teens or perhaps that sex was becoming routine on a psychlogical level. But the article stated that a circumsized penis will lose sensitivity as the skin becomes tougher.

any guys out there know anything about this

Some of your information is actually slightly inaccurate.

I wonder if I could redirect you to "Circumcision Resource and Information Pages" - CIRP.
Specifically this page: http://www.cirp.org/library/disease/

They bring together all the literature regarding circumcision and disease in an easy to understand format.

It covers Urinary tract infection, Sexually transmitted diseases (except HIV), HIV infection, Balanitis (inflammation of the glans), Penile cancer and cervical cancer.

You will find that a lot of the information about circumcision and its health benefits are actually incorrect.

As for the sensitivity.
No medical institution in the world actually recommends the practice.
Let's have a look at medical associations in the developed world. The British Medical Association, Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Canadian Paediatric Society, American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Australian College of Paediatrics and Australasian Association of Paediatric Surgeons. Every one of them recommends AGAINST performing the procedure. Their positions on the procedure can be found here: http://www.circumcision.org/position.htm

Here is a video of the operation. Watch it if you want to learn more. Please do watch it.

It is not just a little snip here and there. Watch the above video of a circumcision in progress.

The foreskin keeps the glans soft and moist and protects it from trauma and injury. Without this protection, the glans becomes dry, calloused, and desensitized from exposure and chafing.
Specialized nerve endings in the foreskin enhance sexual pleasure.
The foreskin may have functions not yet recognized or understood.

"Circumcision removes the most sensitive parts of the penis and decreases the fine-touch pressure sensitivity of glans penis. The most sensitive regions in the uncircumcised penis are those parts ablated by circumcision. When compared to the most sensitive area of the circumcised penis, several locations on the uncircumcised penis that are missing from the circumcised penis were significantly more sensitive." Circumcision removes as much as 75% of sensation [ http://www.nocirc.org/touch-test/bju_6685.pdf ].

The foreskin reduces the force required by the penis to enter the vagina. It also increases the sexual enjoyment of the female partner. Here is a study to back this up: http://www.cirp.org/library/anatomy/ohara/

Performing circumcision on a child can and does result in the deaths of children due to blood loss and/or failure of the immune system.

Approximately 230 American males die every year because of circumcision. [ http://www.sexuallymutilatedchild.org/deathsdo.htm , http://www.cirp.org/library/death/ ] This is a meaningless and very sad loss of life.

It can and does result in very significant scaring.
It can and does result in sexual problems later in life.

Circumcised males have a much higher rate of sexual dysfunction and premature ejaculation. [ http://www.cirp.org/library/sex_function/ ]

The vast majority of the world(83%) is not circumcised.

That is exactly what happens. Your sensitivity will drop to damn near zero. As we age all our nerves lose their sensitivity, that is when the problems caused by "circumcision" become worse, a mutilated male has fewer nerves left and when the remaining ones age he will suffer a rapid loss of sensitivity.

I know this from personal experience, the only time I could feel my wife's vagina is when she is "dry", and how much fun do you think that is for either of us? If I move to trigger her lubrication response I loose all feeling and have a hell of a time maintaining my erection.

All is not lost however, foreskin restoration is helping me get back some of my sensitivity. I have been able to climax while she is still enjoying our encounter; that's a hell of a lot better than being asked to stop.

Hey greyguy: If Maple doesn't, I WILL; we mutilated are brothers after all.

It's mutilation and absolutely unnecessary. The health argument is very weak. Anyone who keeps clean on a regular basis would be no more at risk than someone who is circumcised. They do that to women (cut off the clitoris) in other parts of the world for the same reason - to make sex less enjoyable. We can thank the religious nuts for this!

Alas, circumcision does reduce sensitivity, pleasure, and ability to orgasm, especially as the man gets on the shady side of 30. See http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1464-410X.2006.06685.x

Less well known is that it also decreases sexual pleasure for the female partners of cut men: http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/408/60750.html

The only help seems to be in "restoring" the foreskin, which is a long process. You can expect some improvement after a couple of months, but the full process typically takes two years. A lot of guys say it's worth it. Take a look at http://www.norm.org for more information.

Most important is not to circumcise your sons! This barbaric practice needs to end with those already mutilated.

No Rcc who's familiar with something concerning the Rcc has ever worshipped a statue (a in pagan idolatry). If we cherish the memory of political and conflict hero’s, what extra noble a hero than one that died for God. Are they not properly worth honouring? Statues are merely a reminder a seen help to the hero’s of God, the Christian faith. in the event that they weren't why in Rev 6:9-10 are they decrease than the altar of God asking how long it will be in the previous the pick be avenged on earth? they're there, it tells us, staring at and arranged. Scripture returned up – a million in step with 2:17, Rom 12:10, Heb 12:22-23, Heb 11, 2 Cor 3:18 BTW, I certainly have many photos of kin, buddies, the final Supper, Crucifix, etc in my homestead. they might all be destroyed day after today (& some have been in my flood) it did not shrink my love for the guy or my capability in my faith. why did God supply human beings imaginitive abilities? why do you have photos on your homestead? once you kneel in pray beside your mattress - are you worshipping your mattress? once you're praying beside a kin member this is ill or demise - are you worshipping them?

It can vary either way. Sometimes scar tissue is actually more sensitive than natural tissue. However, I do think it is a choice that should be left to the individual (not his parents at birth) unless there is a medical necessity.
And, hey Maple - if Jesus Christ walked in, would you be the one to tell him he is "mutilated?"
