Some of the beliefs concerning numbers (especially the range from 1-13 inclusive) date fro mteh time of Pythagoras, when all numbers and their multiples had mystical significance.
For the number three, I find the following:
• It is commonly said that luck, good or bad, has a threefold aspect. If an accident occures, two more were to follow, the same with deaths. Letters, gifts, and visitors were also said to come in threes. If an object were two break, two more things would soon be broken—this one lead to folks breaking small objects of little value, to prevent the breakage of more valuable 2nd and 3rd items.
• Many old charms required certain actions to be performed, and/or certain words to be spoken three times in succession before the magic would work.
• Three (3) was a sacred number in Pagan atiquity; it is also considered so for Christians, because of its association with the Trinity. (Which helps explain why 3 is generally seen to be a lucky number more often than an unlucky one.)
• Nine (9) is often seen as a very lucky number, being three 3s.
Hmmm, and Friday the 13th... okay, back into the research. This is the most widespread numerical superstition today. It is often mentioned that this is supposed to date from the 13 present at the Last Supper. This is not the source, however, for the dislike of 13 antedates this event. Another unproven source for this superstition is that witch covens were always supposed to contain 13 members (trial records do not bear this out).
• The ancient Romans considered it a symbol of death, destruction, and misfortune.
• Thirteen people sitting at the same table is considered very unlucky. It was said that the first person to rise from such a table would die or meet with other serious misfortune within the year. (In some places, this is said to happen to the last to rise from the table, rather than the first. In still other places, the misfortune would randomly strike a member of the company.)
• In Oxfordshire, it is said to be unlucky to have 13 people within a single room, most especially for the person closest to the door.
• Hotels were often built without a room numbered 13, instead such rooms were numbered 12a or 14.
• The 13th of any month is said to be a bad day to begin any major undertaking, uncluding marriage, or setting out on journeys. (The misfortune was thought to be doubled if such a 13th was a Friday.)
• The unluckiest day of all on which to hold a wedding is considered to be Friday, May 13th.
On the other side of the list, being born upon the 13th of a month isn't considered to be ill-omened anywhere, and in some places is even considered to be a lucky date on which to be born. Those born on the 13th of a month are thought to be able to expect to be successful in anything that they try in future, as long as they begin such tasks upon the 13th of the month.

Ahhh well I try not to leave the house thinking about anything on Friday the 13th that way the day comes as it is, and I've had more good Friday the 13th's then bad... thought I did fall down two flights of stair on one Friday the 13th and the other I was nearly run over crossing at a crosswalk that had the walk signal. I was having a very good day both times up until that happened. I don't think a specific day has an overall effect on how your day will turn out but I do think that if you think it will be bad it will be because your looking for it to be bad and if you want it too be good you'll be looking for the good. I think its perspective of the person.

As they say, the mind is a very powerful thing. You are able to determine your outlook on life, your day, your next few hours by the way you are thinking.....this is just my opinion anyway. As for Friday the 13th, well to me it's just another day. Now, you have a nice day!

I am not superstitous really. I have heard that death can come in threes. In fact that happened in my old neighbourhood. My Aunt passed away and shortly after two of my neighbours lost loved ones. Whether it is bad luck or not depends on your outlook. I try to keep a positive attitude and most of the time it works.

Bad luck comes in 3's is not really that old... That saying really started in WW-l... With 3 on a match..... And it is base on a very true incident... Think of a sniper.. When the first man lit the match it gave the sniper a direction, The 2nd man using that match gave the sniper time to aim.. And the 3rd man on that match was killed.. And yes that is a very true story that happen in WW-l, WW-ll, Korea, and Viet Nam.... But that true story has change with each telling but it is a true fact never the less..................................................................
