Recently we found that our betta fish ahs dropsy. At first I thought it wass just weird because of the bulging belly but after research I noticed the scales were raised also. I'm very saddened and scared because I HATE seeing fish dies and my body's reaction isn't good. Also, I'd rather the fish to live because we've had it for years and its really close to all of us. Please if you have any information of how I can help the betta. I'd appreciate it. The sad part is we have no idea how long it has been like this because we just noticed it today. Its fins are slightly raised but the belly is extremely swollen. Please any help would be nice, we really do feel like crying.

Dropsy is actually the symptom of an internal infection. Once you can see scales sticking out from the fish, it is quite advanced and you will need to treat quickly and aggressively to have much chance of saving your fish. I would suggest you use two methods of treatment. First, use a antibiotic medicated food. This is available from most pet stores. Also you will need to use an antibiotic in the tank. My first choice for such an infection is Fuarance or Furan-2. If those are not available you can use Maracyn 2, but it is not as effective as the other two listed, so get one of them if possible.

Best of luck and if I can help further feel free to email me.

You probibly will not want to here this but the chances the fish will live are very little. In the meen time all you could do is just keep the water clean, and take care of him really well. Fish that have dropsy dont usually recover.

As said before, the recovery chance may be small, But in the future, there are drops you can place in the water that will help prevent dropsy. They're sold wherever the fish are, normally.

Good luck! D:

I'm sorry, but your betta probably won't last for very long. That happened to my betta. Sadder part was that it died on my birthday. Keeping the tank clean might keep it alive for a couple days more.

I heard of a few human beings having the flexibility to scientific care dropsy with salt baths and medicated foodstuff yet from my journey dropsy is regularly deadly. no one relatively is familiar with what motives it, it fairly is inner infections or perhaps inner cancerous tumors. regrettably many theories concerning this ailment exist, yet while your fish is bloated, likely his inner organs are already broken and this is impossible to maintain him. Sorry.
