Tell the old boy cool off with a adult beverage if so inclined. Next trick is place a 2x4 board about 1 1/2 foot long under the crankshaft and raise the front of the engine about 1 1/2" inch. That places the engine in the nose slightly up position he will still wrestle the gear box past the twin exhaust down pipes but it will go on in. I suspect he is working on a manual transmission and is doing a new clutch. Automatic transmission replacement is challenging because the transmission cooler hoses are in the way and dipstick tube is all but imposable to get back in around the transmission wiring harness. And Please be supportive he is doing a grunt job and he will be very tired. The cooler hoses hook to a bracket that go's around the starter motor to the engine block and if everything doe snot line up quite right the bolt won't go back in and the starter bolts won't line back up. MY e-mail jp,hudson@sbcglobal.net if he needs some pointers... I will open a cold beer now hope he is a patient man.

He needs another stong hand it is difficult to ballance a heavy trany even on a lift while trying to align the shaft and push the exhaust to make clearance room. He may have to reamove the headers to alow the clearance room needed.
