I have spoken with a few people who say that I don't need to purchase a whole steering column. All I need is a steering case and a ignition switch. Someone else stated I did. I showed the people who told me about the case and switch pics. Is it possible to only need this or will I have to get the entire column. Please give any advice you can. This is verryyy much needed. Thanks

It really depends on how much damage was done by the thief. Most of the time, the damage is constrained to the ignition switch and simply replacing that and the surrounding case if it was damaged is all that is necessary. Steering columns typically only need to be replaced if the car was in an accident and you are still trying to rebuild it.

However, with out actually seeing the condition of the steering column it would only be a best guess scenairo for me.

Have the repair shop analyze the damage that was done and they can give you a better estimate.

depending on the age and make of the car it may be cheaper to replace the whole column with a used piece versus buying the parts needed and having somebody tear it apart and replace the parts and reassembly.

Speaking strictly for myself, I have no idea. I'd have to look at the column and see how badly it's damaged.

Do you have insurance?
