For the most part my opinions of others haven't changed much, but I have become more outspoken in daily life because I've stopped caring about what people think about me.

Wow! such negativity.
I think if Y!A bothered me that much I would leave the site alone, but it doesn't bother me, not even the racists get to me. I rarely get offended, so no skin off my nose. But I have come to understand different people better.

I deal with people everyday, I come from a mixed background, I have a crazy aunt, an aunt that is a pychiatrist, and other members with various other professions and "afflictions", so I'm not surprised with anything I see on here. So the things I've seen on here really don't surprise me at all.

I have been outspoken for some time now, but I am the same as you regarding perception. Yahoo! Answers hasn't changed my perception of others at all. I realize that, while people may be more willing to voice their feelings/opinions here, since we are on the Internet, the feelings expressed here are no different than those existing outside of this forum. After all, even though this is the Internet, it is reality just the same... And I was aware of it (reality) long before I came here.

There is far more hatred, bitterness, and ignorance than I had imagined. Ignorance is the one that concerns me most because people have all kinds of educational tools at hand and seem to have a propensity for Wikipedia (not a creditable source) as their go-to. Or worse, web-sites that favor their point of view without regard to the truth.

Yahoo Answers is more of a sounding board for ideals and thoughts. I can see a cross-section of peoples' thoughts and opinions and maybe gain some insights I would not have otherwise. I seek knowledge so I hope only good things happen from being in here.

The site hasn't changed my view of people at all. It only confirmed what I all knew. That people will be their true self if they think no one is looking, and they will say what they truly think is right. Basically, I feel this site is an outlet for people to express and share with others and, in the process, possibly learn something.

I didn't realize that there is so much hate, from ignorant and racist people. I wonder if they know how petty and materialistic they sound. The younger ones seem to be getting their homework done by others, and they still aren't learning anything. Nobody is changing the world anymore because they are too content hiding inside their homes.

i have seen that:
yes, the standard of education needs to upgrade and evolve,
it is normal to say things that others may view as stupid even if you don't think its stupid. a lot of people do it all the time.
somehow this site made people believe that they are good and that they can conquer their fears like speaking their mind and finding that it has substance, inferiority complex, withdrawal symptoms, etc.
this site has opened a door to make one's self better and progressive because this site makes us realize that we are lacking a lot of information and that the world is facing and neglecting a lot of issues that needs to be addressed and dealt with.
there are a lot of people like me who believes that it is better to believe in god and not have a religion and have peace thru respect and understanding of beliefs and principles, than be a part of a religion that oppresses and persecutes non believers.
this site can and has inflicted a lot of good and open mindedness than any other on-line community.
this site could be better and better if people would really share honest, true, factual, and reliable information and answers. just imagine the lot of people you'd be able to help and the difference you can make.

No particularly. I have been involved in computer based forums (e.g. chat boards, BBSes (pre-Internet), etc.) for nearly 20 years and people have always taken advantage of the relative anonymity of computer message systems to speak out about their views and opinions.
This is a double edged sword as it gives shy people a chance to speak out but it also gives immature people a chance to be insulting in a way that they wouldn't dare if they were standing face-to-face with someone.

I think it gives people an opportunity to say what they really feel without filtering. It has been an educational experience for me.
