= (-x^2 - 2x - 4) R 3

or

= (-x^2 - 2x - 4) + 3 / (x - 2)

depending on how you want your solution to look.

You can't really simplify (x^3 - 5) / (x-2) through factoring, so the best you can do is polynomial long division.
