i a girl and my mustache is pretty noticeable and ive been wanting to get rid of it for a long time now. i was just thinking, can you shave it off? i know that when you shave your legs, hair grows faster and more after that. is it true for mustaches too? has anyone ever done it? if it is ok to shave, should i use soap, the spray thingy or should i just use a bleach? thanks!

Yes, of course you can shave it -- and no, shaving doesn't make it grow any faster -- it sometimes seems that shaving makes it grow faster, but that's only because you're shaving it because it's growing faster anyway. Ask any dermatologist and they'll confirm that.
But before you do anything, think carefully about all the options, because there are pros and cons to all of them.
When you reach around 30 your estrogen levels begin to drop and if you've got skin that's sensitized to testosterone AND you have moderate to high testosterone levels, your hormone balance shifts towards testosterone-dominated.
If there's not too much of it, do you really need to do anything? Most guys are OK about women with, for example, a slight moustache.
Facial (and also body) hair on women comes about in the same way as on men because of
1) your body being sensitized, before you were even born, to testosterone -- doesn't happen to all girls, but does to many
2) your body producing high levels of testosterone
The growth rate and coarseness of the hair depends on just how much testosterone is circulating in your bloodstream.
Steer clear of bleaching -- when someone sees you against the light you'll look as if you have a glowing moustache and/or beard.
As far as removing it is concerned it's worth remembering that
* Waxing, plucking, threading, epilating all pull the hair out by the roots and where the growth is hormonally-driven can actually stimulate a dormant follicle into producing more hair quicker. They also distort the root if done repeatedly, leading to hair growing at strange angles. And you've got to let the hair grow to quite a length before you can repeat the exercise. It can also damage the skin and discolor it. Long-term use of waxing also causes bad wrinkles.
* Chemical depilatories strong enough to remove the hair are very likely to burn the skin, cause swelling and cause long-term discoloration of the skin.
* Laser is also liable to cause burning and discoloration and in any case only works effectively on a dark hair/light skin combinantion.
* Electrolysis is very liable to cause scarring and discoloration of the skin.
Which, like it or not, leaves shaving which does not damage the skin. Best done with a men's-style electric razor, the best of which, for women, are probably those from the men's range of Norelco razors (Philishave outside the US). Most women who try a men's Norelco wonder why nobody ever told them about it before.

I've shaved mine off before.. but I cut my lip and it bled the entire night (while I was asleep) It also made the skin above my lip dry and scratchy..
Instead I now use this Salley Hansen (spelling?) upper lip hair remover. It's a cream that comes with a moisturizer. It wasn't expensive and it works. You leave it on for about 6 mins and I use it about every other week to every three weeks.
Don't use it two days in a row though.. I used it and wiped it off quickly because my friend came in the room.. so the next day I used it since it was on for less than a min and my upper lip turned red.

Sally Hansen has an amazing product.
You just mix it to activate the bleach.
You put it on any dark unwanted hair for 5-10 minutes, and wash it off. The darkend hair is now lightened to blend in to your skin.

I swear by this stuff.
DO NOT shave. It will make it come in much thicker and darker.

bleah will work. shaving will be the biggest mistake you make. Why not just try hair removal cream for the face. U just put it on, wait like 5 min then wipe it off with a towel. It works great. u can buy it anywhere and it's real cheap.

Dont shave it. There are creams you can use or there is always wax. Some hair removal creams and wax products are like $5.

hi, i have the same prob as you. But for my opinion the best thing to do is just wax it. Don't shave it, it will become more rough and longer. I hv a friend dat try to shave it. It's da worst thing to do.

It will grow back thicker and coarser! Don't do it.
Instead, you could use a cream bleach like Jolen or Sally Hansen. Another option would be to get it waxed. Good luck :)

Icky! You'll end up even worse! It will grow back thicker and darker and you will look like a man! If you can't wax, use bleach, and save yourself the embarrassment!

Please please please don't shave it. The best thing to do would be to thread it. You can wax it but get it done professionally by someone who will use hot wax. If you can't afford to go to a beauty parlor (a decent one cuz if you go to a dirty one, you'll probably get a rash), then thread it. I usually thread and it's fast and easy. It'll be a bit red for a while but put some ice cubes on it and it'll be fine for a fine.
