you are not stealing until you try to walk out of the store without paying then it is stealing thats why security is at the front of the store so they can get you on the way out as long as you keep the bag and present it to the cashier you are good

Yes it is.

To buy something you actually have to fulfil a simple contract. It's a type of contract called a parole contract because it doesn't have to be in writing. No contract actually does have to be.

A contract is formed of offer, agreement and understanding. Consideration (value) should also pass hands.

So the offer is: IF YOU PAY ME THE MARKED PRICE FOR THE GOODS, YOU CAN HAVE THEM AS YOURS FREE FROM ENCUMBERANCE OR LET

The acceptance is:GREAT, HERE'S THE MARKED PRICE (the consideration) LET ME HAVE IT AS MY VERY OWN

The understanding: A SHOP IS A PLACE WHERE THE OFFER IS AS ABOVE AND THE ACCEPTANCE IS AS ABOVE

The offer is not: TAKE WHAT YOU WANT AND PAY ME LATER

Therefore if you open it, although you can be made to pay for it (DAMAGES, not PURCHASE) you can also be charged with stealing.

Yes, "hiding", consuming, or damaging products while you're in the shop is stealing; even if you "intend" to pay, but your state laws may vary.

Consuming a product (any product) before it's paid for is definitely stealing. Store security are within their rights to detain you for shoplifting.

some stores won't have a problem with it, but technically it still belongs to the store until you pay for it, so yes it's stealing

As long as you pay for them it isn't stealing, but it's still rude.

i wouldn't do that, cuz its not real nice, and some people do that then don't pay for it. but as long as you do pay for it, its not really considered stealing.

really a stupid question. you ask if it was stealing and then you say you paid for it

nope- just uncouth...
I watched a woman open, taste and close several jars of baby food [ stuck her finger in and then licked it] and then stick them back on the shelf.
Store manager was notified on that one.
