Nope, it's a real thing. There are eleven fossils currently classified as Archaeopteryx and they are the oldest evidence of feathers on the planet and the only ones dated from Jurassic times. Furthermore, their advanced nature and placement suggest their origins must have been even earlier.

The Berlin specimen was discovered in 1876 or 1877 on the Blumenberg near Eichstätt, Germany, by Jakob Niemeyer.
