I have long hated chevy cars from a bad first car and second car experience. But I have come to like the new ones after driving a rental for a week it was a nice car.The best thing about toyota is there ability to build a false reputation for building quality cars.In recent years they have suffered far more recalls then GM,Chrysler,or Ford.In one model year every toyota made for sale in the US was recalled they are the only manufacterer I have heard of showing that low of quality.I just bought an HHR and it is a nice car and I really enjoy it.

You dont even need to spend 15k on a old chevy. You can get a get a decent old skool with a strong 400 small block for a bout 5-6 stacks. Those Chevy engines are some of the best engines made and will run for ever if well taken care of. I own a 73 Caprice Classic with a 400 small block w/flow master dual exhaust system and just sold a 74 Chevelle with a 350, love em to death. I own a Acura & Honda but would role the old skool over the new ones any day!!

Despite their past reputation, the new Chevrolet cars are catching up to the Japanese cars for reliability. Are they 'as' reliable? Maybe not, but they are less expensive to buy and the Japanese cars are much more expensive to repair once your warranty expires.
Overall, if you change your oil and oil filter every 3,000 miles and follow through with proper maintainance, you will come out ahead buying American.
Also, you can google the Aveo and the Cavalier and look at the sites showing owner feedback. It's the best place to find out what's good/bad about these models.
Good luck.

jmb really isnt that smart, in one sentance he says to use consumer reports but in the next he says not to buy a ford no matter what. If you go to www.consumerreports.com and look at there overall reliabillity ratings for car companies Ford is much much higher the chevy. So should she use consumer reports to make her decsion or not? Wait, I get it, only read certain parts of certain sources that way you can make a decision thats not based on all the correct information. Now wonder you are a chevy fan with that line of thinking. The toyota corolla is going to be your best choice for reliabillity. Consumer reports is a great reference to use for making your decision. I think they probally know more about cars reliabillity and repair history then jmb so I would probally trust there word over his when making your decision. Look at all the cars and go from there.

WAIT---- Your FIRST choice should be the Corolla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I love chevrolet, but facts prove that any Toyota is the better choice. Pick up a copy of Consumer Reports Guide to New and Used Cars from your local book store. It is mandatory reading material when researching any vehicle while planning a purchase. Do not let anyone con you into buying any ford/lincoln or mercury products though, just incase you find yourself in this situation. Get that book, you will thank me later. Jeremy

Chevrolet's have improved immensely the past three years. Remember this: There is a 100,000 or five year power-train warranty on all GM cars.
Toyota's have a power train guaranty for five years or 60,000 miles. Once Toyota's are out of warranty parts replacements are nothing short of outrageous in cost. For instance, genuine Toyota alternators and starters cost over $500,00.

i love chevy dodge and 30 style fords. but the cavs are nothing but throw away cars and drop value fast.. if you want a good car.. (this might sound crazy to you because it looks like you want a new car.) but get a least a 70-78 chevy with a 350 . might be more on gas but you dont have to worry about sensors. and the parts for the 350 you can find anywhere and cheap.. hell the tranny in the cav that you want will be around 1500 rebuilt. but you can get a rebuilt 350 tranny for 500 dollers.. plus they are built strong. and plus they hold there value alot better then the new vehicles..
