Not a bad laptop, but nowhere near good enough for game design. You'll need something that can run graphics intensive products like 3D Studio Max, Maya, Poser etc as well as a fairly hard-core C++ compiler. Not many laptops will do the job. Here is the sort of thing that will do it: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3127584&CatId=17. At $4,700 it may well be out of your budget. In all honesty I'd suggest you buy yourself a low-spec laptop to use on a day-to-day basis. You can carry it around and write code on it then bring it home to compile on a desktop machine. You will not need a top-spec machine for a few years anyway. Machines are becoming more powerful all the time so I'd save my money and wait until you really need the power... if you buy an expensive/powerful machine now it'll be out of date by yhe time you really need the power anyway. Have a look at Tigerdirect.com, buy a cheap(ish) laptop and a desktop that you can upgrade as required... you'll save a heap of cash that you don't really need to spend now anyway. You'll also be a better coder if you use a less powerful machine b/c you'll learn to be efficient. Any powerful machine can churn any code but if you can get the same result on a low-spec box then you've done some good coding.

Good luck with your studies, we need more good games.

It's a decent laptop, but you would probably want something with a better graphics card.
