my son used to drink 5 oz every 3 hours.
For a month now, he's been fussing after 2-3 oz.. can NEVER finish his bottle without crying.. The doc. said there is no medical reason for it.. we have tried diff. bottles and formula and he does same thing with every single one. its not the nipple... it's not burping... Has anyone else had this problem? i get very upset, b/c i cannot help him.. i can't even figure out whats wrong...

he's 3 month old.. he plays great, always happy and sleeps relatively good.. Only during feeding, is when something's wrong.. He;s on soy formula..

Do you ever notice him arching his back while feeding? It could be that he has reflux - very common in infants. My son has been on reflux medicine since he was 1 month old, and it really seems to help him. I would discuss the possibility with your doctor.

Also, resist switching formulas and bottles/nipples, as this can also upset a baby's system. Figure out which ones work the best and then stick with them. There are formulas that are made especially for babies with upset tummies - like GentleEase and A.R. Let your doctor help you choose.

Possibly colic. If it is it will happen around the same time each day, like painful gas, crying. There is nothing you can do because what colic is, is his digestive system hasn't developed fully, they just have to grow out of it. Make sure an read up on that, and ask more and more about formula, if he is on soy, maybe he needs to go back on regular formula, but give one or the other a chance, and read up on colic. He will eat when he is hungry, maybe he just isn't eating as often as he used to because he isn't as hungry as a newborn.

Maybe he's having some reflux after those first few ounces? Or maybe the nipple isn't giving a fast enough flow for him? It's hard, my son is 7 weeks and will do the same thing while he eats...

Goodluck to you - hope you find some answers soon!

Seems early to start, but you never know.... if you've tried everything else, it may be an issue due to teething. My girl started around 4mths, and it was hard for her to nurse for a solid mth before her bottom teeth broke through. It's not unheard of for a baby to teeth at just a few mths, so try rubbing your clean finger on his gums before he eats, giving him a cold teething ring to chew on, before you start to feed him. If that isnt it, just let him eat as little as he wants, no sense to make yourself stressed out by this. You'll see it only continues once they reach toddler age.

Try feeding him goat's milk instead of the soy formula. When I stopped breast feeding my oldest son, he couldn't 'tolerate' the soy formula, but he could drink goat's milk just fine, and that 'worked' for him to 'grow' (he also got 'cereal' and was learning to eat 'real food' then, but a month on just 'goat's milk' shouldn't hurt him any ... it's the 'same' as formula, but 'thinner' and easier to digest for some babies).

Feed him half as much, twice as often. Babies need to be able to control how much they take in and when, you shouldn't be expecting him to take in a certain amount every so often, just make small bottles whenever he starts to show hungry signs.

some babies are just fussy eaters. its annoying, but hang in there. In a few months he will be albe to hold his own bottle and he can just fuss to himself!!!
