In Men's college basketball I always see strength of schedule and RPI rating. What is this defined as and what makes a good RPI rating?

RPI stands for Ratings Percentage Index and rates every men's college basketball squad on a weighted scale.
The ONLY reason anybody cares is it is used to select the teams in the NCAA tournament.
For teams without an automatic invitation by winning their conference an RPI below 40 is usually needed. The team with the lowest RPI does not always get invited but it is important.

Ratings Percentage Index
The basic RPI formula is 1/4*(Winning Percentage) + 1/2*(Opponents' Average Winning Percentage) + 1/4*(Opponents' Opponents' Winning Percentage)
