I always use Sir and Ma'am unless noted otherwise by the acutal person. It is a very nice gesture and in my opinion should be used at all times, especially with people you don't know.

up until i was 21 anyone who was 15 or more years older than i was got addressed that way.
in my 20's-30 it was folks in their 60's. now it's no one.

when I talk to people that are older then me yes but I haven't been addressed like that

yea i did it the other day on xm radio i said yes sir and he thought i was old enough not to say that and i said im only 13 and he siad ohhh wat song would you like to request then

yes, sir, i do. at work, it is virtually mandatory. but i don't mind, as that is the way i was raised.
