I don't see why you need to be proud about something anyone on earth could do. Where is the achievement?

At 55 I feel proud if I can sometimes perform without viagra but I think I have a right to be proud because that is an achievement at my age.

What is it about what you do that makes you proud?

OMG, I have the same question!!! I would love to know the answer to your question!

What would people say if i had a parade for all of the women that have "relations" with their husband? People would say I was nuts, it would not be tolerated.

Can you imagine if we had a special week for bestiality lovers, or oral only people.

Just the thought of an entire society formed and allowed recognition on an world wide basis because of their choices in s e xual acts completely baffles me.

*stepping off my soap box now*

I used to think that I was no more proud of being gay than I was of being blonde or blue eyed. It was just who I was. BUT I realized that I am proud. I worked long and hard to get the rights that GLBTS have these days.I went through a lot of sht along the way. It's a celebration of, if nothing else, the progress that we have made toward equality.

It's all about being PROUD that they have the strength to stand up to the ignorant people of the world - as you have shown yourself to be!

If you were oppressed in ANY sort of way, wouldn't you feel proud that the world has changed in such as way that it "should" never happen again?

Yes - I say "should" - because hatred and ignorance are still running rampant. Just look at some of the replies to this very question!

Pride - whether about your sexual orientation, your race, your nationality, or whatever - isn't about boasting or competition; it's about pushing aside all the negative stuff that tries to make what you are seem bad, and just saying "Hey, I like who and what I am, and I'm proud of that!"

I think it's a great achievement for any LGBT person to shove aside all the religious and social ideas that label them as freaks or sinners or weirdos, and maintain a strong, healthy, positive self-image. Your straight allies applaud you!

The one thing I think that there is to be proud about is the fact that the LGBT community is no longer suppresed my most and treated like second class citizens in society. This is a huge accomplishment. And that is something to be proud about. LGBT people can comeout with out the fear of being looked down upon and worrying. Sure some people may still not accept them but overall in society they can be free to be who they were born to be. THAT IS WHAT THERE IS TO BE PROUD ABOUT!

To fight bigots. Straights get all year round devoted to them
Pride is also to fight bigots like the truth troll who claim that gays are child-molesting perverts when that isn't true, scum like him is why pride week is still valid and useful
Edit: look at the titles of some of the threads and some of the comments made and you will see a lot of hatred - that's another thing that separates gays from straights as straights aren't hated and murdered over thier sexuality

It's all blown out of proportion and sex alone is the culprit whether it is with yourself ,same sex or with beast or women..If you can't get it up there must be a reason for it and why would take a drug to accomplish an orgasm.. I think it's sad that life revolves around that and find it disturbing that we don't have better things to do in life!

Hey man made gratification Yipee! I hate to think what's next...

Life is hard enough without perversions .......I'm proud to be straight ......

LOL...I heard a gay guy on television asking: "Do you think that I chose to be attracted to men? Or, to be taunted by the way that I carry myself? Do you think that I enjoy being called names to make me feel bad about who I am? He went on later to explain that being gay was beyond his control. He said that if he could, he would be masculine and attracted to women...but he wasn't. He even mentioned that during childhood, when he realized that he was attracted to boys, that we began wrestling with thoughts of suicide. Being gay was simply beyond his control. (We can't chose our gender, or, how our hormones are balanced.)

Therefore, I would assume that the Gay Pride Week, is for people like the guy I spoke of. To make them proud to be who they are even though it wasn't by choice. To make them realize that other people like their selves do exist. And to simply let them know that there is a place in the world for people like them.

I am not gay, but I have many gay friends.

In response to an answer given: They don't have a female or male pride week, because that's normal.and readily accepted.

Pride allows us to come together and celebrate. I am sorry there is nothing in your life worth celebrating but that is no reason to rain on our good time.

I am not gay and I support gay pride week. Why? Gay people have had to hide and be ashamed of their sexual orientation. This is not about bragging or sexual prowess (but good for you for doing it without viagra) it is about pride in who you are and not letting anyone discount you.

Well, you don't have the church telling you that you are an abomination just for having sex.

After years and years of hearing people tell us that we are abnormal and will go to hell, I think we deserve gay pride.

Hopefully, one day, we will be accepted by society and will no longer need to have gay pride week.
