First of all, his name is spelled Salazar Slytherin (please spell it correctly). Second of all, Slytherin liked Pure Bloods the best, but it's not necessary for the people in Slytherin to be Pure Bloods. Lastly the Slytherin House qualities are cunning and ambition, not purity of blood. It just so happens that a lot of witches and wizards who are pure blood end up in Slytherin.

he was very picky about the students going into his house. If you read Order of the Phoenix, the Sorting Hat says it: Only those with the wanting to have glory for themselves were allowed. Now, Voldermort obviously went into Slytherin because Voldermort is a decendent of Slytherin himself. Also, in Half-Blood Prince, we are told that Snapes mother was at hogwarts and was in Slytherin. Lets not forget that Snape knew about the dark arts in ways others did not at a very young age, like Voldermort. Its said so in Half-Blood Prince.

It's not a prerequisite to be pure-blooded to get into Slytherin.
We know from Harry's experience with the Sorting Hat that personal choice is taken into account. I think Salazar Slytherin valued people who hated muggles, and if a person hated their muggle side of the family, like Snape and Voldemort probably did, then they would be able to get in.
Many wizards who are pure blooded end up in Gryffindor... Ron, Neville, James Potter, Sirius Black... The Sorting Hat is dependent on choice, as well as certain skills, not genetics or pure bloodedness.

Pure bloods are becoming extremely rare in the real world as well as Harry Potters'. If only pure bloods were admitted to Slytherin it would probably not be viable.

The other house heads wouldn't let Salazar get his way. And besides, the one trait of the Slytherin house that is dominant is not exactly blood (but there are never any muggle-borns in it) but how evil the student is or how evil they will become.

you dont have to be a pure blood to be in slytherin. there arent enough of them left, yet alone enough with the characteristics to be in the house (the weasleys for example). snape and voldemort were in slytherine because theyre evil and will do whatever it takes to save themselvevs.

Slytherin didn't get his way. That's why he left. The Hat is loyal to no one House and keeps saying that they need to join together... and it is the Hat's decision on where the children go.

Just because he wanted it that way, doesn't mean the other headmasters accepted. Plus, he got mad and left. If it were up to him, the world would've been cleared from mudbloods, muggles and squibs, but that didn't happen either
