Yes, it's possible. However, there is a small gap in the hymen (cherry) for the menstrual blood and discharge to flow from the body. I used tampons for several years as a virgin. Never had a problem, except it took some practice learning to insert them properly.
As for your virginity, technically, you're a virgin until you've had sexual intercourse. So even if you do break your cherry with a tampon, you'll still be a virgin.
You should probably try some of the smaller junior sizes for the first few periods. And if you have problems inserting them in the first few tries, a little lubricant on the tampon applicator may make it easier for you.

The hymen is located outside of the vagina. It's a thin stretchy layer of tissue with an opening. Using tampons can stretch or tear it but you probably won't notice, most women don't. Part of the hymen usually remains until a women has given birth vaginally.

I wore tampons when I was still a virgin. I don't think it affected my "virginity" at all. If you decide to try them be sure to get the smaller sizes like junior, light or regular so they will fit properly, work correctly, and they wont be uncomfortable for you.

I don't think so. The Hyman or the cherry as you put it, is a lot higher than the tampon should go
