No but I think this would be a good punishment:

* Being forced to stand in line for your groceries, clothing, toilet paper, etc for 4 to 6 hours before receiving HALF of what you wanted.

* Having to wait on a waiting list for 2 to 5 years to buy a car - which you will co-own with 10 to 12 of your friends and relatives because that is the only way you will be able to afford it.

* Get all your dentistry done ASAP but wait 2 years for heart surgery - Cancer? Plan on sacrificing your life for the good of the state!

* Pay 70% of your income to the government and only receive your food, clothing & daily services in the most half-hazard, careless manner from people who are drunk 1/2 the time - and live on the 30% or so left over.

* Be forced to live in a dwelling ideal for 3 people with 12 to 15 people with no privacy for toileting or sex.

* Be reminded that this is the "worker's paradise" every day on 1 t.v. channel that does nothing but show parades of nuclear missiles being marched down the street while playing kitschy Russian folk music.

* Eat watered down Borscht, moldy potatoes and small, tough cuts of meat ...

* Pay $100 for a pair of Levis Jeans or a Beatles Record knowing they might be confiscated as "not in conformity with state morality".

* Buy anything else you want on the Black market at ridiculously high prices and at risk of arrest.

Do all this for 70 years or until you die, whichever comes 1st!

No penalty. It's a belief in a different system of governance. The only time it hurts anybody is when two governments decide there is no room for compromise. I think the penalty should go to the world leaders who forgot what they learned in grade school. I'm glad I don't live in a communist country, but I don't wish death on anyone.

The Penalty for Communism is Failure.

Always has been. Always will be.

So you want to penalize people for what they think? Isn't that what Che Gueverra did? Isn't he remembered as the Butcher of Cabanas for mass executions without trial of those who didn't think as he did and spoke out against the Cuban Revolution?

You're against hate crime legislation because you say it penalizes people for their thoughts but here you are promoting the exact same thing. Is that not the definition of hypocrisy?

I sometimes wonder if you're really conservative or just making fun of conservatives.

We did actually kill a number of leaders who we thought were Marxist. Lumumba is Zaire, Arbenez in Guatemala, and Allende in Chile for starters. All of the governments were replaced by dictators that were more violent and genocidal than the Marxist leaders. Sese Seko, Pinochet, etc. are some our most notorious world leaders.

No, I do not agree with you.

There should be no penalty for communism. Every one is entitled to their own opinion, even if you don't agree with it.

A follow up question: Why do people ostracize people just for their opinions, and then call themselves American, when the American way is to respect people's right to have their own opinion?

If we allow the government to penalize anyone for a "belief" or political philosophy, then we open the door to tyranny & will soon have Republicians or Democrats tossing members of the other party in jail for not supporting the agenda of their party.
Your thinking is more dangerous than any political philosophy one could encounter.

No value is more American than the Freedom of Speech. In fact, it is a COMMUNIST value to punish people for their beliefs. And you don't want to emulate communists, do you, DeadMarxist?

True committment to Freedom of Speech is implicit in supporting it on behalf of someone whose beliefs you don't share. I abhor communism -- but barring actual criminal activity, I support the right of communist morons to be communist morons.

Let's work out our disagreements in a healthy and robust public debate -- not by punishing those whose ideas we don't like. THAT'S the American way.

lol and hear I thought the cold war was over. Its done and over. Communism by definistion is an ideology that seeks to establish a classless, stateless social organization based on common ownership of the means of production. It means everybody is boss. We are family. I am not a communist but hey what they stand for is pretty nice sounding.

You seriously think that people are threatened by communism?

What is the harm in being a communist?

Also we have freedom of speech and thought- that's actually one of the good things about being in America. Mostly you can't be killed for your ideas.
