Does "mixing and matching" makeup brands work?! (for foundation, concealer, and powder)?

I am trying to find the best makeup for the best prices, and it seems like one brand will have a great foundation (according to reviews), but a concealer that's not so great, and then another brand will have the best concealer, but a foundation that i've tried and don't like. So, if i get the best of both, will they work okay together? Or are the brands specifically designed to work better with only products of the same brand?

Here, is an inexpensive plan that I have come up with (I'm very tight on money and I really want to get stuff that works together-you can't take it back if it doesn't work!):

Covergirl TruBlend Whipped Foundation
Neutrogena Healthy Smoothing Stick Concealer
Neutrogena SkinClearing Oil-Free Pressed Powder

Do you think these types of make up will look good together? or bad? Please help! Thanks!!

please?! pretty please? i'm desperate here guys!

Don't fall for the brand's marketing gimmick that says " best used with " that's just a way to make you purchase more.
I mix make up and toner, cleansers etc..I find the combo I like best. Go with what you like. It certainly works for me.

I do it everyday. I like Physicians Formula Eyelight Highlighter, Maybelline Eyeshadow, Almay 16-hour eyeliner, Maybelline Volume Express Turbo Boost mascara, Maybelline Mouse Matte Finish foundation, Neutrogena Mineral Powder and Neutrogena Mineral Powder blush. These all seem to work the best for me so far. Covergirl products do not work well for me and I don't like the Noxema smell. Loreal also has great eyeshadows and mascaras. I think Revlon is overpriced and I don't like there eyemake, liners or foundation. There nail polish does seem to last though and they have interesting colors. I don't use the cheap brands like Wet n' Wild and NYC, but even they work for some people. In the meantime, have fun trying out different things and when you find something that works for you, stick with it no matter what brand it is. And some places (like CVS) do have a moneyback guarantee if the product does not work out for you. Good Luck!

There are very few people who wear the same brand ANYTHING when it comes to make-up. It's all about color variety and quality. As long it looks great on there should not be any abnormal consequences.

I'm currently wearing a Covergirl Foundation, a Savvy (Sally's Beauty Supply Brand) Concealer, an Avon Pressed Powder and MAC lipgloss. LOL. They look great together. These companies have the best color matches for me right now.

As long as it looks good, nobody will care what brands you have on.

You are not stuck with buying all of the line in one brand. Buy what concealer you like, what liquid you like, what powder you like.

Buy what ever eye makeup you like, etc etc. Find your right fit. I just personally like Covergirl concealer and pressed powder.

And don't always listen to reviews, they could very well be slanted by whoever is funding that review. Trial and error is the best way to decide. And some places like CVS actually give your money back if you don't like a certain makeup product.

The only way you can KNOW for sure is to just try it. Yes, it is an expensive way to find out if they don't. Yes, mostly brands work well with each other, but in my experience, Cover Girl can go with pretty much anything, as far as foundation and concealer, I don't know --

--- make sure you check them out in ALL types of light -- meaning, look under fluorescent lighting (like at the store or a school or institutional place if you don't have fluorescent lights in your house. Then take a mirror by the window, to see in natural sunlight. Sometimes things look fine in one light and not the other.

Oh gosh, I always mix and match. And that is how I've always done my make up. I used to used Trublend but now I use
Bareminerals foundation
Maybelline everfresh liquid concealer for little spots
and maybelline blush.

I'm pretty sure if you do it well it will look good. No one knows that other people use different brands either! Don't worry about it. No one will be able to tell

I mix and match make-up brands all the time!

I like Almay when it comes to liquid foundation and their pressed powder. Its a little more expensive then regular drug store brands, but its hypoallergenic and a little goes a long way.

However, the bronzer I use is expensive, but it lasts FOREVER. Sunny Disposition from Origins.

The key to good looking skin is good skin care. That way, you dont have to buy a lot of foundations and powders.

They should...I use Rimmel London for foundation, neutrogena for concealer, and Rimmel London for Powder...It looks fine...just make sure that your colors match VERY closely..Also, If you wanted something kind of like the covergirl foundation...my Rimmel London one works great and is light weight...but the covergirl is cheaper..so It really doesn't matter what brand you use...its what colors you use...try sticking to colors that are almost exactly the same! Hope I helped ya
ciao for now,
tara =D

as long as the colors aren't different for foundations and concealers, mixing and matching brands is fine. if i were you i really wouldnt use that much stuff on your skin...stick to the whipped foundation and concealer or the skin clearing powder and concealer. using too much of each thing will clog your pores and might look weird. use either powder or foundation not both.

Ya hun you can totally do that...oh my gosh sweetie thats totally funny because I used to wonder the same thing...but I just tried it out...you have to be careful though, because some brands might make your face brake out and others may not. More of the liquds tend to do so then lets say the powder foundations. So ya totally have fun with experimenting with different kinds of makeups and stuff. And I agree...but you can never get better quality than MAC makeup! Thats my fav. Have fun!

Mixing and matching is fine. You just have to consider what works with your skin- I have sensitive, so I had to be careful. Now that I am older, I use only one brand- Lancome. But I started off using Almay and Covergirl. so don't worry about the brands, just be sure the colours grove! Oh, and don't pancake, less is definitely more!
