Out of their moralistic guilt over having been so active in the Atlantic Slave trade.

By the way, and this is really tangential, but it's an argument I haven't seen before: When are the Irish going to apologize to the British for enslaving them for so many centuries? I know, you will argue that the British were awful to the Irish for centuries, but before that, from well before 400 (remember St. Patrick was British and was kidnapped and taken into slavery in Ireland) well into the 1100-1200 slaves were still being taken from Britain into Ireland.

No one ever seems to remember that the British were taken as slaves and transported across the sea against their will to serve oppressive masters.
