Both. The neo-cons who persuaded Bush to invade Iraq strongly support Israel, as many of the neo-cons are Jewish. Protecting Israel was one of the reasons Bush decided to invade Iraq, but he did not present it as one reason. He cherry-picked intelligence reports to find evidence that Saddam Hussein was seeking to develop nuclear weapons and that he was in league with terrorists. Both assertions were lies, and Bush's people knew that.

We already had Hussein surrounded by troops, so that he was not a threat to anybody, but the neo-cons wanted to build a Democratic nation in Iraq, and they would not listen to anyone who told them that invading Iraq is a bad idea. You just can't use logic to convince fanatics.

There are several reasons for our being in Iraq, and protecting Israel is only one of them. Oil control, revenge over the President's fatsher's failure to get Saddam, but most of all, follow the MONEY. Having connections to oil profits and the no-bid contract to Halliburton, while holding valuable stock in both, is a clue. (Now, which way did Bin-laden go? Does anybody care? Is he free to plan another surprise for us?)

We are there to make Cheney and the Bush family wealthier than they already are. Its about oil and money. They are greedy s.o.b.'s who do not care at all about our soldiers. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

Lying to the American people, Congress, and the world about the threat from Iraq & need for war.

War of aggression against Iraq, which posed no threat to US.

Death of over 600,000 Iraqis and nearly 3,000 S troops in unnecessary war.

Exploiting 9/11 for political gain and for war to benefit oil companies and other cronies.

Canceling Iraq's oil contracts with foreign companies and giving them to American corporations and restructuring Iraq's oil industry to their specification in violation of the Hague and Geneva Conventions.

Awarding no-bid contracts to cronies for rebuilding and oil exploitation in Iraq.

dead marxist is right, israel was never mentioned.

but that doesn't make it irrelevant--

having a secure middle east is definitely in the interest of the united states. strategically, economically, you name it. we'd be better off with more friends in the middle east. this is especially true if there continue to be illiberal (as in liberal democracy like ours, not the liberal/conservative spin) governments in the area.

having israel's security helps too--israel likes us and we need more friends in the area. if israel isn't secure, they're not going to be helpful to us for much longer.

as much as some people talk about israel's human rights record, they do have the best looking record in the area.

so helping israel helps us. and we wouldn't do something that doesn't help our interest.

Our kids are dieing for their crumbling buildings.

We aren't defending innocent people.

All the citizens there know who the terrorists are and where they are.

The terrorists go from house to house to carry out attacks and bombings.

This makes them complicent and guilty under the law.

The bottom line is we are there to control the Iraqi oil. Anybody that tries to convince you otherwise is either lying to you or sadly misinformed.
