reformating your computer is the COMPLETELY LAST RESORT you use to fix a virus problem. Use any antivirus program you can find first. Even if you feel the program doesnt get rid of the virus, it will give you the name of the virus you have and then you can look up directions on how to completely remove it. FORMATTING IS A LAST RESORT and will erase everything else on the computer if you dont back it up first.

Depends on the Virus. I no what a cop out but it is true. Some viruses attach to the hard drive in a way that a normal format will not erase them, in these situation you have to perform what is called a low level format. Most Linux Operating Systems have a utility for this. I do not believe Windows comes with a utility for this but you can find free ones on the web.

You see format does not erase data it only removes the table of contents to the data on the disk so it can not be found through normal means. For more information on actually erasing data you might want to look up disk scrubbing.

reformat will erase everything from your computer even if it was a virus
but you musk know that reformat must be done OUTSIDE the windows operating system because when windows is running,,the virus will copy itself to the new reformatted area and will be the same as past

some type of viruses will still be there even if you reformat all your hard disk drives because they stay in partition space...so deleting the partition and repartitioning is necessary for removing this kind of RARE OLD viruses

if you have a non- infected backup from your valuable data...i suggest you repartition and reformat (full format not quick format) all of your hdd
and if you think you can have a antivirus that can delete-remove viruses from your hdd,,,install it and update it and run it till all of your viruses are gone

the best thing is repartitoning and reformating all of your hdd,,,it's safe and reliable...but time-consuming job

if you want to have a antivirus i suggest you to use KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY 6
it can also block any annoying pop-up window...
good luck...

Reformatting will erase EVERYTHING on your computer, including the virus but also your OS, your applications and files.

I'm not quite sure what do you mean by the pop-up menu, but maybe you should start by installing an anit-virus like AVG and an Anti-Spyware like Adware to try to clean your viruses/spyware first. This could solve your problem.

It'll remove most identifiable viruses today.
But it will not guarantee removal of all viruses.

There is a special family of viruses which are hard to detect and can be generally invisible even to the Operating System and Experts (unless someone has reason to deeply inspect a system) called rootkits and within that overall family there is a category that does not install itself onto the hard drive disk. Instead it installs into flash memory which some disks have, disk controllers, BIOS, more.

Of course, reformatting your hard drive won't do a thing to those viruses.

Before you reformat your pc, you can download the free version I use of Superantispyware. This program will find what all other antispyware or antivirus programs miss. You will also get auto updates. Perform a complete scan of your system, when the virus or spyware is found and killed reboot your system. You will be find. No conflict with your other security programs.
