I just gave my visa card details to some website which claims i will be able to make a lot of money by joining them. I am waiting to recieve whatever it is i have paid for - a web page or something to start selling their items. Have i been stupid? Will they clear out my account? I am not in total panic as i don't have much money in my account and only a small over-draft limit (it was a debit card i used). I am just thinking how silly i have been - do you think i will have been ripped off, or are some of these things genuine?

I gave them an email address, full name, country and postal code as well as my card details.

They sent me an email and on it it had a link to go to to cancel - i did that, but they still have my details. I will have to wait until tomorrow to cancel my card, but if i do this will it be ok, i mean they won't be able to steal my identity will they if i cancel the card???

Thank you for all your good advice guys.

This sounds very fishy. Edit your question and include a link to the site and we can give you a more precise answer.

-edit-

I wouldn't worry about them stealing your money or identity, but you will *not* make much (if any) money from their scheme. They're running the same scam that has been done over and over and OVER again, promising that you can make tons of money with no effort at all. What they actually offer is the ability to start your own ultra-generic website that promises people the opportunity to make tons of money, yet never really explains what exactly it is that you *do*. Once they get your money they tell you to register a domain, offer tons of e-books for sale about how to get rich with no work, and then spam the hell out of the internet making empty promises of your own. It took me forever to find some real information (because Google is clogged with hundreds of people *swearing* that they've made thousands of dollars, hoping that you'll believe them and join the scam), but here's some real information.

http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?p=229099

Notice the people all swearing they're getting rich with the system, then read down to the post where it reveals that all those people are -one- person assuming multiple identities. If that's not enough for you, just wander over to the "search engine optimization" section of Y!A. You'll see nothing but people who are trying to make money off of content-free blogs and scame and trying to spam / cheat their way to the top of Google searches in an effort to sell the same scheme to other people who don't know better.

Consider it an expensive lesson and don't be fooled again.

It depends on what the site is?? There are many ways to make money on the net but if you are just starting out then you should NOT start by giving your card details now should you?
While you are learning you should do just that: learn and there's a lot of free information about if you want to learn.
The way I did it at first was to just do reviews, there are some sites who are just gold, like Thenetpanel or Nielsen/NetRatings, you won't get rich but you get enough money to survive then you'll have more time to find more ways to get money off the net. My first advice is NOT to pay anything, and to do some research BEFORE you get involved in anything. Perhaps a couple of days for every place you do not know.
check this for some collection of places that are respectable http://www.sleekbytes.com/ it'll give you an idea of what to do, search each of them in google if you want, you will find out how it all work.
good luck
edit: just seen the site you mentioned. Sorry but I couldn't read through it all to see what the damage is, however, yes, if you want to make any money you should steer clear from such rubbish, still, now that you have paid, see what happens and learn from it all, any experience is good. Also if you are worried about anyone using your name without your knowledge, then get a credit report, free over the net or 2 quid via post http://www.kqzyfj.com/mk121uoxuowBDJIKFDHBDCFIHIHD?sid=403

Cancel your card IMMEDIATELY and report identity theft! It doesn't matter if you have much in it...they will be able to hold onto your information and ruin your credit later. I sure hope you didn't do extra stupid stuff like give them your social security number and address.

They can do more than clear your account out...they can use the information you gave them to open new lines of credit in your name and run up huge bills, something you may not discover for years until you try to apply for a loan (for a house or new car, for instance) and then suddenly all this negative information appears on your credit report claiming you owe thousands of dollars that you never spent.

Report the website to the FTC, and file a report with the BBB.

You should also call the credit agencies and ask them to flag your report for any suspicious activity.

For other things you need to do, go here:

http://www.identitytheft.org/

And take a lesson from this to NEVER give out your credit card information to anyone except when you are specifically buying something or paying a bill yourself.

Don't fall for this scam again.

Please list the site you went to. Have a look for it on scambusters.

Monitor your account as closely as possible for the next few days and if you see strange withdrawals, inform your bank immediately.

Is the stuff being sent by email or post? It should say so on the site.

Add the site as a comment and the more experienced of us may be able to investigate further with better info for you. Then we can warn others if necessary. It may not be a scam. Too many people jump to quick conclusions, although we must all be careful online these days.

Here's hoping your money is safe.

I work for a company and we deal with money transfer, i recently underwent training about this sort of thing. did the offer look too good to be true, did they offer you vast rewards for almost little input, maybe guranteed returns beyond expectations, did they also tell you to keep it secret cos it was only usually open to a select few. if the answer to any of the above is yes then i would cancel your card immediately and notify your bank giving all the details.

This is quite clearly fraud and you should never give your credit card details out to anyone offering services like this.

your not stupid you just saw pounds signs and ran with it. you should of investigated a little more.
remember you dont get something for nothing in this world.
Call and cancel your cards, the main problem isnt your money, if youve given your dob and your address and your a/c details and bank your identity could be stolen, thats the problem. crims dont look at the short term, you wouldnt of gone to them if you had cash, you do however have a credit report and they have your details.

report it to the bank explain that they need to be extra vigilant with change of address and other details

you should be ok, dont beat yourself up though, I once new of someone who received a telephone call claiming to be from her bank and gave them everything including her mothers maiden name.

We all do it, take care

It usually gives you a page you can download the products you bought and/or an email directing you to the page. If there seems to be a problem you can find the contact information of the owner and ask him.

Incase you are interested in the community who run such sites(not scammers, but internet marketers), you can visit http://www.warriorforum.com/forum/

Before you do anything get in touch with your bank and cancel your card. Then give us the link and we can check it out. It sounds too good to be true and you know what that means don't you?

i would cancel your cards straight away and change all your bank details such as your acc number and so on - think of the reprocussions, if they can access your statements for example they can see when you have booked a holiday for and then they have your address and can burgal your house. extreme I know but be on the safe side
