the video card that i've chosen to buy is a 8x AGP 512MB that runs on a AGP 4x slot (NVIDIA Verto GeForce 7600 GS). The card i currently have is a 256MB AGP 4x (NVIDIA 4200 Ti). If i buy this card, will the added video memory increase the speed of my games and applications?

Also will it update my shader model to 3.0? (my current shader is 1.10)

Any answer on added performance will be helpful

Thanks

It is not the size of the memory that speeds up the game but the GPU architecture (more shaders or stream processors the better), core clock speed and videoram clockspeed. 256Mb dd3 will always beat 512Mb ddr2. Besides, 512Mb v-ram is not always fully utilized in many games. The 4X AGP slot will significantly bottleneck the fast videocards.

The corresponding driver will update the shader version. Be sure to uninstall first your old driver.

to fre up system meory the card will be nice ,and for the shader and pixel model if the card has 3.0 yes it also will and apg is nice if that is waht your board can handel .but the 8x will only on at 4x agp cause you agp slot has to be able to handel both 4x or 8x
