I am thinking of getting a degree in genetics... my father is very opposed to this, saying that it will not get me very far career-wise. I need some opinions on this, such as what kind of jobs I could potentially get with this degree, the salary for such a job etc. Also, know of any good colleges/universities with good genetics programs? Thanks!

I loved genetics in High School and College. The Medical Field is progressing very rapidly and I'm sure there is a place there.

If you learn the fundamentals you could practically tell a parent what probability their child will look like.

Otherwise there is always zoo's and any other occupation where animals are breed for top of the line blood lines. Speak to a college advisor and see what kind of fields former students have got into. They may even have placement services.

Genetic Counselor, you make sure two couples who get married don't have anything in their genes that would cause birth defects like down syndrome, it pays well at about $80,000-120,000 a year and I recon it's not a hard job, you cotton swab the two potential parents mouths and send the DNA out to a lab then get back the results and look at the chromosomes.

If you like science and can earn a defree in genetics, go for it.
