How to make my beloved stop smoking?

He needs to realize himself first. Once he does, this worked for me(quit 3 yrs ago). Set a quit date and slowly reduce the number of smokes per day until the quit date (i.e. one pack a day-half a pack a day-6 a day-4 a day...etc) Relapses are common and WILL happen, the key is restarting once it happens. It took 2 months with relapses before I never had one again.
It helps to avoid bars/restaurants at first...reduces temptation.
Chew gum, but NO NICOTINE GUM. That just prolongs the craving.

You can't make anyone stop smoking and having been on the other side you might not really want to try. They turn miserable. My college psychology teacher said nicotine is the most addictive substance known to man.

I quit in January, I only used the patch for a couple of weeks.
Glad I did. Smokers are not doing themselves any favours, but I did enjoy everyone I smoked. The price of cigs is getting of hand.

one night while he or she is asleep, take one cig out of his or her pack.

This is kind of tricky, but you're going to need to unwrap it and pull the paper back so the tobacco is exposed.

Now, you're going to want to put a little bit of ammonia in there. Not a lot, because ammonia is toxic and you don't want to poison him.

Now, roll the cigarette back up and try to make it tidy so it looks like it hasn't been tampered with.

Next time he lights that one up it will make a loud pop and sort of blow out at the end (a really small explosion). He'll be so scared he'll never smoke again.

do not try and make him stop if you truly want him to stop, rather leave him alone. do not complain abt it and rather let him spend more time with smokers, let him see, smell them and most of all wait for him to suggest stopping. he will respect you for that. do not try any short cuts otherwise he will go back once you leave or hurt him, think of it as he will be making up his own mind, for his own reasons. good luck,be supportive and extremely patient with him.do not judge him.

Make it unpleasant for him to smoke. Make him suffer penalties worse than death. He will love you for it in the end.

Jolly Ranchers and strong determination worked for me. I want to be around to watch my kids grow up.

You can't "make" someone do anything. If they won't stop, and you can't bear it, move on.

Make it clear, however, that this issue is one that will cause you to move on. Be prepared to follow through with it.

hide his smokes, flush em down the can (toilet.) or move out!

or the ammonia idea works too.
