First make sure you are organized. You are runnign a business so if someone comes to you for planning, you need to be prepared with papers, organization, things written down for them and for y ou.

Plan your own wedding if you have to, but this will help you lay out ideas for forms to fill in, pages to develope for your planner book etc.

Lastly, ADVERTISE. Best place to advertise is at florists and bridal stores. Take in business cards and ask if you can just lay a few on the counter.

First you need to get a client. You may want to start through word of mouth and get a friend or colleague or someone lined up. Once you have one successful project under your built, you can build from there.

Go to places like theknot.com, weddingchannel.com and figure out how to get listed in their local directories, so that people can find you. Set up a website with a lot of information, etc.

You may also want to visit www.irs.gov to find business forms to get listed as a business entity, so you know how to handle your taxes in the coming year.

i can tell you that you are going to need to do some research on the surrounding businesses that you will be working with. you'll need a list of resources of different businesses to help you with certain things. (recommended bakeries, tux shops/rentals, the list can go on.)
You have to be able to deal with emergency situations and know what you need to do to fix them, and at the same time calm and please the upset bride.

most importantly, you need to plan these weddings/parties as if you are planning your own.

i recommend going to your local library and checking out books on this profession!

good luck!
