Yes, and the landing was broadcast on NASA TV. Atlantis landed safely at 2:50 pm CDT.

You used to be able to. Edwards would open to the public for the shuttle landings in the 70s and 80s. I attended six shuttle landings including a dawn landing and a night landing.
