Didn't the Nazis carry out some of the Holocaust in Poland?
It is true, though, that the non-Jewish victims of the Holocaust are often overlooked, probably because they were somewhat fewer in number.

Kaczynski did mention the Holocaust, he just didn't call it so and just spoke in general of the loss of population that Poland suffered because of the war, about 6.5 million people who were killed. But half of these were Polish Jews who were killed in the Holocaust. About half of all Jewish Holocaust victims were from Poland which was 10 % Jewish before the war and where now only very few Jews are left. Most of those who survived the Holocaust (about 10 % of the original Jewish population of Poland) left Poland short after the war because their communities were destroyed and there was a lot of antisemitism.
The problem is not that Kaczynski mentioned Nazi crimes but that he wants Poland to get additional votes in the EU because of that. This is quite a peculiar political concept. By the same logic other countries could also start to calculate what their population would be without various wars in their history and claim political influence according to their hypothetical populations if there had been no wars and genocides.

Good old Poland, when they said on sky news " don't mention the war " it made me think of Fawlty Towers and John Cleese doing the goose step while holding a finger horizontal under his nose. While Blair no doubts will be brown nosing other E.U members, the Poles are kicking their a ss. If one of the Polish twins could take over instead of Brown, then there would be at least one person in the Labour Party with a spine.

Poland was treated appallingly by the Germans and obviously have not forgotten or forgiven yet. I think the reason the politicians are angry is that the outburst by the Polish Prime Minister has rocked the boat in the discussions that are going on about the EU at the moment. Good for him, I say.

It is for the same reason Blair said we shouldn't teach children History in schools if it mentioned the French and Germans as it wouldn't be good for EU unity if people were aware of their appalling behaviour in the recent past.
