No offense, but you cannot simply setup some program like Alex said and get to your home PC from work, unless you are paying for a static IP. Programs like Hamachi are nothing more than a freeware version of PCAnywhere with a LOT less security. If you can't install software on your work PC (which a lot of companies will not allow their users to do), then that solution is out. A lot of other programs require you to setup a Webex like VPN session so you can then remote control or map to your local machine. Almost all of those require you to know your routable IP address. Not only will your ISP not give you the information on your routable IP (giving a way to gather that information negates them charging you for a permanent ISP) they usually block the RDP/VNC/etc. ports for your own security (oh and they really frown on you hacking their modems). In addition, your companies IP staff will more than likely have blocked those ports at the perimeter. You should ask your IT staff and ISP about a VPN capability as others have mentioned. If your doing it for non business purposes (I.E you want to play .mp3 files you have stored on your home computer from your business computer), then you need to look into getting a permanent IP address and work on setting up your own WWW server.

The safest way to do this is to establish an IPSec VPN between the router at work and the router at home. Of course this means that you have permission to do this at work. Routers that host their own vpn are a bit more costly than the home grade units but they are a lot better than the cheap home grade units.

Once the VPN is active, using Remote Desktop in XP will do the job nicely.

With a VPN you have no router ports open which can be a hacker entry.

The easiest way would be ultra VNC. If you have a router in place at home you can open a designated port for you to get to your PC through. Go to portforward.com and look for your model for instructions.
This will allow for password protected access to your home system via the VNC viewer OR you can use a web browser. The one point you need to understand is that you have to track your homes external IP address in order to access it remotely. Since you home most likely has a dynamic IP then it will change on you and you need to know what it is in order to access your system.

Remote desktop works really well as long as your work network's firewall allows it. Just this morning I used a windows XP laptop to remotely access my windows ultimate desktop. I could post how to do it but all i would be doing was cutting and pasting the directions that windows supplies. Just search windows help and support feature to set up remote desktop.. the directions are very easy to follow and the whole process will take maybe 15 minutes.

you would be very youthful. you will could have been around while Revolver grow to be released to take excitement in the effect that song made. Radiohead is a robust band, the Beatles are in a classification with the aid of themselves. That pronounced, song is subjective. Who am I to declare that my musical tastes are greater suitable to anybody else's? i'm confident there is somebody obtainable who thinks Britney Spears new album is each bit as good or greater useful than, permit it Bleed.

Depending on what you need to accomplish you could install an openssh server on the home system, and run the openssh client from work to remote in. I do this with my linux systems and it works like a charm. It's a command prompt interface so be prepared.

you can use a program service called hamachi

if you want to access your computer remotely use vnc

if you do use hamachi you will have to open up ports in the router , firewalls and track your ip as it changes - this is easier and safe.

Hamachi with cnc would be the easiest by far

you need a VPN to do this. virtual private network.
you need to create a dialer with the properties corresponding to the office network on your desktop and if you dial it you can access the nw provided you have the user id password needed.
