and now my apt manager posted a response, assuming it was my roommate who posted it. now i am worried they will treat us differently since they are assuming she wrote the review. we know our management is upset with us (though everything in the review was quite true). If they do start treating us differently (worse than they already do), what can we do?

i realize it was dumb of me to post the review before i moved out. otherwise i wouldn't be posting a question on yahoo about it. i did it in the heat of the moment, when they had pushed me to the brink of freaking out on them. instead of making a scene in the office, i went home and wrote the review. i learned my lesson.

we are out in less than a month. as long as they do things legally, i have no problem with them being rude (hey, they've been rude to us prior to the review i wrote anyway). every single thing i said in my review was true based on my experience with and treatment from them.

I was a Property Manger for years and when I had renters post reviews it was very easy to figure out who did it.. likely you complained in your review about something they know you have been complaining to others about so it is not hard to connect the dots..

With that said most of the reviews I received were favorable to me but they were complaining about something out of my control... like a bug problem they had (mostly because they pilled up their trash outside the front door)

Anyhow my point is as Manager it is very frustrating but my motto was always kill them with kindness so those people actually got a very sweet side of me.. I am not one to fight fire with fire..

But if your Manager takes it personal and gets upset and is rude to you.. there is nothing you can do about it. As long as they do their job and countinue to maintenace your unit as needed etc.. The way the act towards you is not relevant.

My advice.. consider if your review was acurate regarding the situation and if any personal attack was nessasary. If you are just frustrated with a siutation and want to advice other renters (like noisy neighbors etc..) then do so but if you are just out to bash someone then you might want to wait until you move out. I might consider changing the reivew until that time so you have a more plesant working expiernce with your manager.

There are renters organizations in many cities and states. You will have to google around to find your rights as a renter.

If your landlord treats you poorly because of an anonymous online rating, you've got definite grounds for a lawsuit.

He's correct, if you're getting special treatment like paying your rent late or the such, kiss those perks goodbye. But staying within your lease guidelines should be something you've both participated in since the beginning.

There's a lot of guidelines based on the city (Chicago is very strict on renters rights) so you're going to need to do some research. The next time you're in this position, don't sh1t where you sleep. Same goes with employers. Bad mouth them AFTER you leave.

Apparently your online review was not nearly as anonymous as you thought it would be. Posting such a review with the ability to track it back to your unit was not the brightest thing to do. The landlord, if sufficiently irked over your action, may well start requiring that you honor your lease/rental agreement to the most strict detail. And they may do the same on their part. Remember that there are many times no legal time limits for them to respond to problems in your unit. Guess which unit just went to the very bottom of that list ?

While iammaurer posted what you wanted to hear, he's simply off base. As long as the landlord stays within the letter of the law and does not violate his end of the lease agreement, you would have ZERO basis for lawsuit or complaint.

obviously you should have waited until u vacated to trash the apartment. you might learn a valueable lesson, dont sh1t where u eat. u might have to wait longer to get repairs, etc. u might not be their first priority or a valued tenant. dont expect a recommendation when u leave.
