I think, as with anything in life, it has both negatives and positives. But it can help with loneliness. I am never made more lonely by my contact with others online.
For the most part, my experiences have been positive. I've played a few massive online role-playing games (Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, EverQuest 2), and have met some awesome people. A few of them I consider to be best friends, comparable to those I have in the real world. We've talked on the phone, laughed, cried..
I view the internet as a new way to meet people. It should not replace face-to-face contact though. We need those kind of interactions. But the internet offers a new, and potentially, positive way to connect to people not just in our neighborhoods, but around the world.

Like most things, I think it is whatever you make of it. It's a tool that can be used positively or negatively. True some people get sort of addicted to the point it negatively impacts their lives, and that's obviously not a good thing. On the other hand if you are a loner and a couch potato, at least it is interacting on some level with other human beings, which, in my opinion, is better than no interaction at all.

Excellent question.
I think it is mostly positive as long as it is kept in the right perspective. That being, we will probably never actually meet any of these people in our real life. That doesn't mean that I don't have friends here that I love and cherish, I certainly do.
It can make me feel less lonely or on some days more lonely. It depends entirely on how I feel on that particular day.

Combination of the two. It could be positive because you could share ideas with someone in another state or country but it can also be negative because a person could be very rude without having any fear of facing the person who they are insulting. Its like that term called beer muscles, a person who is drunk think he can take on everyone.
It can make a person feel less lonely but only temporary.

not as "taboo" as before, it's more accepted now, we all have very busy lives, too busy to be hanging out all the time, and you can actually meet interesting ppl, with like hobby's etc etc.... but yet i guess it can still feel a "bit lonely"

Since I'm a 'people person'....I vote it's okay as long as both parties are cautious to not give out any personal information they don't want to. I think it's fun!

I enjoy "talking" to everyone. When I am alone.I can chat with others on here and make new friends.
