I am looking for some gear to make stage props with, none of the DIY shops or builders shops have heard of liquid rubber/latex, polycarbonate rods, or foam or anything. One directed me to the shop that sells spare stuff for car maintinence...and as for the craft shops... "whats that dear?" while pointing me to the needlework.. I know of an online place to get the gear but I am not paying £15 for delivery of a bit of foam, you know? Where can I go to get this sort of gear?

(i would prefer to buy over-the-counter near where I live - South Devon)

Not being from England I'm screwed on giving you directions, but...

Liquid Rubber (for molds) can be found in a good model railroading store (we use it to mold plaster "rocks").

Polycarbonate rods... check for "plastic supplies". Here in California we have "TAP Plastic" that sells to industrial plastic users for displays.

Foam... Home-Depot carries polystyrene sheet insulation, and you can also get the spray expanding foam. I get expanding foam by the gallon thru my local boating supply store in their fiberglass section.

Good luck !!

Our props guy loves that expanding polystyrene foam stuff that you're supposed to spray into gaps... he sprays it into lumps which he then carves and paints - it's been everything from boulders to Audrey 2's pods & even pieces of coal for the Farndale Avenue version of "A Christmas Carol"...

Liquid rubber or latex - just a thought - have you tried chatting to your local chemist?

Well, ultimately, Jimmy Page's Les Paul guitar from his famous film, "The Song Remains The Same," but is it considered a prop? Um, how about, Kevin Spacey's shades in "The Usual Suspects"? I'll be happy with that.

for the polycarbonate rods - try kite shops (proper ones that also sell the stuff to make your own kites) or fishing tackle shops.
