I wouldn't use goof off nor nail polish remover to take latex paint that has dried off of my hardwood floors because both will damage the finish. I have used Mostenbockers and Krud Kutter with success and neither damaged the finish on my hardwood. You can find Mostenbockers at the Home Depot and Lowes carries Krud Kutter. Of the two I prefer Krud Kutter mainly because it can be used for a host of other krud whereas Mostenbockers is a specially made formulation that only can be used to remove latex paint.

Its pretty hard to ruin a hardwood floor. First try a product made for stuff like that. I use one called 'Goof', but there are others, just go to a paint or hardware store. Worse comes to worse, sanding and re-coating the spot may be necessary, but it is not ruined.

Oil based paint, or latex?
Latex, water and detergent should work if it hasn't dried for 24 hours. After that, this should work for dried latex and oil based paints:
Often a good citrus based cleaner will do it.
"GOO-GONE" works very well. (available in the USA)
It will not harm the finish on the floor. Nail polish remover will lift the paint, but it will also dull the floor's finish.

make sure you use as little as possible. try paint remover. it will probably fade a little bit or make it feel a bit ruff. if its a huge spot than i would recomend you try to get it off and if it ruins it you should get a refinish. they don't cost that much or you could just put a chair over it. ive never gotten paint on the floor, but ive gotten nail polish and i just wiped it of with nail polish remover and it was perfectly fine, but i think paint remover is a lot stronger. ive also spilled nail polish and wiped it off and its was fine. it only damages it if you leave it there.

Try gently scraping it of with your finger nail, if that don't work try very lightly rubbing it with mineral spirits do not rub hard work it in gently it will slowly break the paint down .
