Vehicle Identification Number, needed by the lock smith or dealer who is attempting to produce a new key for you. In all vehicles since 1980 when it was standardized, it is a 17 digit number found in several places on the vehicle, the most common being on a plate seen through the windshield on the driver side, or the "A" door pillar.

It is also on your title, and registratin cards, and probably your certificate of insurance coverage.

Yes, VIN is what felicia above said ^

If you look through the bottom right corner of your windshield (from the outside of your car - so basically the bottom corner of your windshield behind the steering wheel), you will see a long combination of letters and numbers (about 15 or 20) stamped on the dashboard - that's your VIN.

It should also be on your vehicle registration slip and insurance slip (here in Ontario Canada it is anyways)

Vehicle Identification Number

It's basically a registration number for your vehicle. Much like your social security number.
