Whoa ! Slow down.... Babies are all different and grow at different rates.. We have 2 children ages 1 and 3 and they wear the same diaper size (4's).. I would reconsider "stocking" up so soon... Instead get a membership to the local warehouse club (Bj's, Sam's Costco's) and buy your diapers there.. I have bj's and I find their brand diapers are awesome and if they don't work there is a money back guarantee! A 176 pk of diapers last us with 2 children about a month.. However, each child is different and may go through more or less. Also, some babies have allergies and sensitive to certain brands.. I really liked Pampers swaddlers for the first few months. They are expensive, but they work... If you are that freaked about it... Have a diaper shower where everyone brings diapers/gift to your shower... Also, Bj's has there own coupons that you can use with manufacter coupons... So, look for and save coupons.... They also have baby shampoo, soap, lotion etc.. Congrats/good luck... Also, if you are that freaked about diapers, plan on breastfeeding...The price of formula will knock your socks off....

I wouldn't buy too many newborn size diapers. My daughter was almost 9 lbs at birth and the nurses were searching around the maternity ward for size 1s! She's almost in size 2 already. I gave away all my newborn diapers to pregnant friends because she outgrew them within a few days of getting home from the hospital. Get 1 or 2 packs of newborns, or you can wait and people will buy them for you!
I would stock up on size 1 and 2. You'll be using those first, and you won't have to worry about storing the larger sizes for months until you need them. And honestly, I don't think you're ever going to buy too many. My daughter is only 7 wks old and we've gone through probably 10-12 BIG packs of diapers already. She is probably going through 8-10 diapers a day still (she's breastfed).
As far as how many diapers to a package, the bigger the size, the fewer diapers come in a package. Just save receipts for the diapers you buy so you can exchange them for larger sizes if you need (or Walmart will take them back w/o a receipt).
ETA:
Buy several different brands as well - you never know which brand will irritate baby's skin or not fit his/her little bottom just right and leak everywhere! I prefer the Pampers Swaddlers, though - they're very soft and are less irritating on my daughter's sensitive skin. They're also the most expensive though.

It all depends on how fast your baby grows and how big they are, since diaper sizes are based on lbs. I'd say on average, a baby is in Newborn, 1 and 2 for a month or two each, then size 3 for quite a while. My daughter is in 3 now and is 6 1/2 mos old. Once they finally get to 4 they're there a really long time, then 5's for just a bit before they should be potty trained. But again, if you have a smaller or larger baby than average... it all depends! And you're right - the smaller the size, the more they'll go through - you'll be changing the newborn size 8-12 times a day, but once they're a bit older and sleeping through the night, you'll change them only 4-6 times a day, on average.
I'd buy 2-3 jumbo packs of Newborns and 1's to start, then just buy as needed.
Congrats on the baby!!

I would buy 1 pack of any different kind you see in the size 1 and 2. All the name brands, and all the store brands. That way, when little one is born, you have a stash, but not so many that you will waste any. Also, keep all the recipts. If your baby can not use a particular kind, or grows too much before they are gone, most companies/stores will either exchange, refund, or at least give coupons for future purchases. Do the same with the wipes, but stay away from the huggies. They are very rough and harsh on sensitive skin. I have found the unscented cheap wipes to be the best option. I think it is great to stock up, but you have loads of time. So, watch for sales and closeouts. You may even ask the department stores where their returned diapers go (when diapers are returned to a store, they can not be put back on the shelves, they are donated to good wills, salvation armys, and womens shelters. Targets all go to good will). Just a thought.

I really wouldn't worry about stocking up. Many different brands and they are sized differently, and fit differently. Some leak bad where others do great. Some stretch for a better fit where others don't stretch or stretch very little. Not to mention you won't know if the baby might have an allergy to one of the brands.
It's trial and error in the begining. I would just wait and use whatever you get as gifts. Then you can decide which brand you like. Hold off on stocking up. Instead take the money you plan on spending for diapers, and save it so you will have it when the time comes.

Well, I wouldn't buy too many newborn diapers because that is one of the #1 things people will buy you. Also, the same with size 1. I would buy probably no more than 10 packages of size 2 just because every baby is different. My daughter is not quite 2 years old, (half way potty trained) and can still fit in size 4! So you really never know. Good luck.

I think you need to take a deep breath and realize that everyone that reads your question is going to have a different answer because every child is different. Before you go buying a ton diapers let me make this suggestion. When your family/friends throw you a baby shower have them do a diaper wishing well. We did this at my shower and every quest brought a pack of diapers. I got all sizes and I did not have to buy diapers for the first 6 months of my little guys life. This is a good way to get started and not spend all your money. Then just take it one pack at a time. Some weeks I got throught lots of diapers and some weeks I got through less. Good Luck!!!

You buy about 2 packs of newborn diapers. Depending on how big the child is, they should be able to use at least two. Then only buy about 4 packs of 1s. They are really small too. It is the 2, 3 & 4 that they wear for longer times. But heres the problem on the stocking theory. We had to try all 4 major brands of diapers to find one that fit our baby comfortably. So I sure wouldn't stock up too much. You want to stock up on something, stock up on formula. I suggest Nestle Good Start. It is excellent for the money and you won't find a better formula.

I have a 5 year old a 3 year old and a newborn at home at the time and you should buy about two packs of size N because they are a bit smaller and stay away from the umbilical cord. Size 1 buy a mega pack and a jumbo. (they outgrow number one pretty quick) Buying Size 2 and on really depend on how quickly you're baby is growin because some baby's jump from size one right to size three... that happened with my three year old... it all depends on your babys size and even if you don't wanna be spending on diapers you're going to have to because no babies are the same and the advice i give you about my three kids can greatly differ from your own personal future experience.... but like i said in the beginning be sure to buy size N for when you bring your baby home they really come in handy!!!!!

As a current mom of twins in diapers we went thru about 20-22 a day total, so 10-12 a day on one baby is about right. We have been in size 5 the longest, as they are now 2. I would not buy larger than a size 2, as you will run out of storage space. Something my family did for me, since these twins were a surprise late in my life, was a diaper shower. The one shower my sister gave me guests were asked to bring diapers as their gift. If this is your first baby, you may have more than one shower and you could have one as a diaper shower. Best wishes!
