Nope - The greatest TV series ever will transcend all boundaries and borders and appeal to the entire world.
Lost is a competent drama mystery but it did get lost a bit for a while before it picked up again in the third season.

In my humble opinion it is one of the greatest series ever made, and I am gutted that I wont be around for the final denouement which will explain it all. There are other series which are just as good though, 24, Prison Break and ER to mention but a few. However, as it is my opinion I will say that nothing could ever beat Star Trek or Babylon 5. They to me have been the epitome in any television shows in the past few years!
Edit
How could I have missed The X Files and Stargate off my list of great programmes! Doh, my brain is definitely not working well now.

I think 40 years of Doctor Who could give it a run for its money.
but Lost has great potential to be repeated and syndicated for years. Think about what its going to be like watching it back once you know the big reveal.
There are so many clues; visual, metaphoric, numeric, every plot twist, anagramatic put into every episode that the producers must be going to make megabucks publishing a book explaining them episode by episode. Don't take those backstories at face value, they'll need a lot of explaining once you know the secret.

Nope - best TV series ever by far was Xena: Warrior Princess (despite the terrible title). The first epic saga created by humankind in over 2000 years, in the best tradition of ancient mythology. A lot of what you see on the screen these days was enabled and influenced by this series (and a lot of the big films too). Though you can't watch the episodes on a 'stand-alone' basis - that's like reading one chapter from the middle of a very big book! Highly serialised, totally character-based and truly magical (or in the words of Quentin Tarantino - "magnificent").

It was the greatest, but then Lost got lost. And unfortunately, there are reail Heroes. Actually both shows are very good and I don't miss either one, but right now, Heroes has the edge. We'll see what next season brings.

I wouldn't say it was the greatest TV show ever, but I did enjoy it until it was bought by SKY and now I can't watch it!

I loved the first season but after that I felt it drifted off a bit, or lost my attention at least. I watched the first couple of episodes of season two but haven't seen it since then.

I think we're gonna have to wait to see how they finish it until we decide whether or not it can be put up there with the greats...I have a sinking suspicion that it will end awfully and we will all end up hating it.
