My son is 7 months old and I just got my period back the day before yesterday. He is exclusively breastfed still, doesn't sleep throught the night (he wakes up once sometimes twice)... I thought periods didn't come back either until the baby slept for several hours straight or started solids!

When did you get your period back, and was your baby breastfeeding/sleeping through/on solids?

Also, I'm wondering if I automatically start ovulating or if I could be having periods without ovulation? I started tracking my temperature this morning, but I'm not really sure on how to do this... If anyone has information on how to track the basal temperature to detect ovulation, or knows where I can find this information, please share. Thank so much!

You can still get your period back even when you are breastfeeding. It doesn't matter about the schedule. And you do ovulate still while breastfeeding (sometimes without a period). As far as BBT, you have to make sure you have a special thermometer to do it. I attached a link with some info (you can probably find info. about your period and ovulation from the same site).

I nursed my son til he was 6 months old, but I got MY darn period a month after he was born! Not fair! It's untrue that breastfeeding prevents you from getting your period, but it does reduce the liklihood. Everybody is different.
Do a google search on the temperature method, there's lots of info out there.
Good luck

you still ovulate even with out your period. I got mine back with in 5months of having my baby. and i was only breastfeeding. Who ever told you that when the baby sleeps through the night or eats solids was crazy. It just all depends on your body.

I think it depends on our bodies. I didn't get my period until my son was 9 months and I only breastfed him until he was about 3 or 4 months. If you are concerned about getting pregnant talk to your doctor about it. When I had my daughter(2yrs later) I got on the mini-pill just because I did not want to risk getting pregnant and still wanted to be able to breastfeed my baby girl.

I have had four kids and nursed them all. For me, the average length of time until I got my period was nine months.
