so this summer, i`m going to be a junior next school year, i was planning on joining volunteer groups and stuff like that. Will colleges think that by joinging now is too late? like i know colleges look at what you join buti don't want them to think that i joined just to beef up my resume last minute . Would joining now show that, is it too late?

No, it's not too late. I'm currently a junior in college, and when I applied to colleges as a junior in high school, I didn't start getting into clubs, activities and volunteer work until junior year. That, and all of my grades were horrible freshman and sophomore years. On your transcripts and resumes it makes you look like you're growing and maturing to the colleges that look at it.

I applied to 5 colleges and was accepted to 4 of them. So in my opinion, no it's not too late.

I don't think it is ever too late. By all means, start volunteering. It will show favorably now, and in the future if you decide to continue your education after you receive a bachelor's degree.

And even if your volunteer work doesn't help your education, you can feel good that you did something positive with your time and probably helped some people in your community that needed it.

Not at all. It isn't when you join, it's what you do once you join. So if you volunteer during the summer, try to make sure you are given assignments so you will have something to list, rather just membership in an organization.

It's not too late. When you report the date of your volunteerism write June of 2007. Don't volunteer the day.

That's all that volunteer groups and activities are for anyway. The college won't care.

No probably not because as long as you do it, it shouldn't matter how long ago or whatever it was.
