As far as I'm concerned, no I don't think it's breaking and entering. When I was younger and lived w/my mom we sometimes had to climb in a window because I left my key @ home before I went to school. We lived in a small town and I never had any problems.

To convince the police, if it's a place where you lease then I would think you should be able to show them a copy of your lease and driver's license as proof. If you're not on a lease then you might have to have someone who lives there with you vouch for you. That's my suggestion. I hope things work out for you. Good Luck!

EDIT: I'm not so sure the address on the license will work if your like me. I moved about a yr and half ago and never had the new address put on my license so you obviously know that may not work if the address isn't correct.

LOL I don't know, but I once locked my car keys in my car and had to ask a passing policeman if he could help. It took him ages, (you could tell he was no car thief). It was very embarrassing. A friend of mine once had to break into my flat when I had lost my keys. It made me realise that my (ivory tower) wasn't really as safe as I'd always imagined.

The house next door to us was broken into last summer. The police came to investigate and I was chatting with them and was saying how safe I feel in the neighborhood and admitting that I rarely lock my doors. He said, not to worry that locks only keep honest people out! I thought, how true!!

No, but if it's a rental, you'll probably have to get your landlord to vouch that you are indeed the lesee of the apartment. If you are just living with a friend and you break in, you could get in trouble unless your friend doesn't press charges.

Give them positive identification with photo and the address on it of the place you are entering would help.

No, you could show the police your drivers license that has your address on it.

tell them that and if they dont believe you go to the neighbers and get them to tell the police that is your place. also you can ask to call someone and have them tell the police where you live.

Identification. A driver's license, or any other picture ID would do.
